scrolling Frame by Frame

mastermusic2 wrote on 1/4/2013, 2:22 AM

Hey guys, I have been struggling to scroll frame by frame to finetune my edits and there is no button to do so.  What do I do???

Also, when I zoom in to the frames there is some kind of snap that does not allow me to move the clip freely although I have deselected every snap button.  What do I do ?

Thanks guys,

Kevin

Kevin,

Left and right cursor keys for single frame scroll. Keys + Ctrl move by five frames. Note up and Down cursor s+ Ctrl are shortcuts for zoom.

If you have zoomed in to single frames you can only snap to frame boundaries as there is no smaller divisions.

Hi,

You need to use the scroll wheel or jog shuttle as it used to be called.

Thank you guys. I will try it. I am trying to sync music to picture and I really need to go in and sync frame by frame but then at the lowest level of zoom there is still a sort of snap and its not free to move it just a little. That bugs me!!!

Hi,

The reason you can't edit directly at the milli or micro second level is because MEP is a video editor and as such is based on frames ie 30 frames per second 1 frame equals one thirtieth of a second etc.  and not time per se.

You could try changing the frame rate to get the audio more precise, but that could mess up your video. Or you could try using audio delay in the mixer section which is the first thing I would try.

Well. My video is on 25frames and not 30 and it still doesnt work.

kevin,

What about this...

As we said, video has to snap to frame lines (25 or 30 or whatever) but your audio track can be put anywhere. The screen shot above (from VPX2.5) has been zoomed to single frame resolution (hr:min:frame) and shows the ungrouped audio positioned about half a frame (1/50 of a second) offset. Will this be OK for your project?

ADDED: Unfortunately part frame audio movement doesn't seem possible in MEP2013, nor even in old MEP14. Perhaps the facility in VPX reflects its closer ties with Magix Samplitude Audio program.

Kevin,

Another idea...

Could you load your audio into a sound editor, remove a fraction of a frame's worth and then use it instead of your original? Try a right click on an audio object and pick 'Edit wave externally...' which by default is Magix Music Editor 3 which comes with MEP2013. I've only had a quick look but seems promising.

Hi,

I got so caught up in trying to make MEP do something it simply can't do that I forgot my audio synch basics.  The way to do this is with a proper audio editor that edits with time and not frames.  Here is an example of shifting audio plus and minus in time that is less than 1 frame.

This was done using Audacity.  I could have made the changes much smaller but chose the time intervals that I did for illustration purposes.  About a year ago I was going to do a video tutorial on how to do this in Audacity (which is free) and somehow got side tracked.
