Screen Capture: Where is the Internet Media Button? And Magix Tools?

Galaxy wrote on 1/5/2019, 2:27 AM

I am able to record videos and audio from the internet, from within Video Pro X. That's working fine. What I can't do is capture still screenshots. To do so apparently requires the "integrated browser". But to open that, I would need the "Internet Media Button", which is nowhere to be seen. Quoting from the Video Pro X manual, on page 340:

The integrated browser is opened by clicking on the "Internet media" button in the Media Pool ("Import" tab).

I don't see any such "Internet Media Button" anywhere. It's not visible in the Import tab of the Media Pool. So where can I find it?

Also, there's nothing marked "Magix Tools" either. It's shown in the manual, but I don't see it anywhere in Video Pro X. Where can it be found?

The next page in the manual -- page 341 -- briefly explains how to use the integrated browser for capturing still screen shots of web sites. But I can't open the integrated browser because I can't find the "Internet Media Button".

Does anyone know where to find this mysterious Internet Media Button?

(I realize I could use the Windows snipping tool instead, but that would require extra steps, and I prefer a streamlined workflow.)

Thanks in advance.

(I'm running Magix Video Pro X, version 16.0.2.306, on Windows 8.1 on a Skylake i7 computer with an Asus Geforce GTX 1070 graphics card.) This post has been edited.

@Galaxy

Hi,

You should update your manual (or I should). What you mentioned now starts on page 356.

"Magix Tools" still shows up under Import. However, the only thing that is there now is "Travel route..." which wasn't there before and has replaced: XAR Animations; Downloads; Database; Online Album; and Internet Media.

I raised the point about XAR Animations (see my list) with Magix and they said that it was removed intentionally; no reason given. I didn't ask about the others. I suggest that you raise a ticket and I will also add these to my open ticket and to my list. These were useful. I can see no reason to remove the link to XAR Animations. At least Downloads shows up separately, unless it was I who added the link.

Database was only useful if you had Photo Manager. I raised this issue recently (and a couple of years ago) and the answer was a brush-off. What is the point of creating a database in PM and categorizing things, like people and places if they can't be used anymore in the editing programs?

Hi

Assuming you are using the Screen Capture function to record from the Internet, and you are wanting a still image from the recorded video this can be done.

To export a still image from the captured video, position the timeline cursor where you want the image from then select File, Export movie, Single frame as JPG or use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + Alt + J.

@browj2

Your manual is the same as mine and needs correcting by Magix.

@johnebaker

Hi John EB,

I think that the trick was to be able to capture screen shots from the internet, not from an object on the timeline, and also text.

I would rather that Magix return the program to be like it was - as per the manual, and fix everything else, of course.

Hi John

AFAICS there is no mention above of capturing text and the only statement above is:

. . . . record videos and audio from the internet, from within Video Pro X. That's working fine. What I can't do is capture still screenshots. . . .

Without more clarification from @Galaxyon the still screenshots required we can only make assumptions.

You should update your manual.

Good idea. Done.

"Magix Tools" still shows up under Import.

I don't see Magix Tools at all in my version, which I believe is the most recent (16.0.2.306).

Anyway, I asked Magix tech support about this. They replied,

Unfortunately the integrated browser was removed from the program. Apparently, it still appears in the manual by mistake. I will forward this to our developers.

But they did not say that the Magix Tools dropdown was removed, so I'm puzzled that I can't see it anywhere. Here's a screenshot showing what I see:

Am I looking in the wrong place?

@johnebaker

Thanks for suggesting a way to capture a frame from a movie on the timeline. I tried it, and it does work, but the Windows Snipping Tool is more efficient. Even more efficient, however, would be image capture from within VPX -- from websites, documents etc.

Thanks.

@browj2

Thanks for the screenshot. That's very helpful.

Compared to that, all I saw on my screen was a list of hard drives, but I clicked around a bit, and suddenly, the Magix Tools folder appeared. So the mystery is solved.

Now I just hope Magix will restore some way to capture still images from websites and documents -- from within VPX, for a more efficient workflow. Something like Snagit would be ideal.

Thanks.
