Screeching sound upon playback

Hi Forum, hope you can help. I have a mighty HP Pro 3400 tower desktop, that I do some voice over recording on. As a side note, I recently had Windows 10 installed/upgraded from 7.

Prior to the upgrade and even now, there is a screeching sound when I play audio back on my Sound Forge Audio Studio 13 recordings. Prior to Sound Forge I had Pro Tools, so even on two different recording software platforms the high pitched screeching sound that happens occasionally upon audio playback of my recordings happens. So troubleshooting wise, it can't be the recording platforms i don't think, as I have used two different ones, and still the same problem. Perhaps it is the sound card that needs replacing. What do you think?

Also as a side note, when the notification sounds happen (received an email) the screech happens too.

Welcome to the Sound Forge forum @VGilette.

Since the noise happens on PT as well as SF, I would suspect corrupted files, the soundcard or another app interfering with the soundcard Disable any media players.
Do all file types exhibit this behavior? What file format(s)? Can your share one of the problem files in Dropbox, GoogleDrive, or other cloud sharing site. The file's MediaInfo may help as well.

Do you have a microphone plugged in when the screeching occurs?
