Saving ID3 tags. How to?

pgmer6809 wrote on 8/28/2013, 2:30 AM

Is there some way of copying the ID3 tags from one Project to the next?
If I cant permanently embed them into the audio, then can I export them and re-import them later?
I go to a lot of trouble to make these tags, Then when I want to burn a CD, I import the various audio files so as to add them to the CD project, but the ID3 tags do not get imported along with the audio, and I have to re-enter all that information again.

(And no I cannot get them from the web. The web does not have any information on the LP's I am making into CD's)

thanks,

Hi,

I see that no one has answered yet and you may have already found the answer.

When you create the ID3 tag for the song, make sure that you click on "Write ID3 tags in original file" in the Track Agent, or "Write all" if you have more than one. When you create an MP3 file from your track, it will then contain the tag. When you import the MP3 back into a new project to burn to a CD, check the ID3 tag by pressing "L" on your keyboard to bring up the Track Agent. You will see that the track information is still there.

Becareful with the numbering and Auto Numbering in the original file as you could end up with "01 01 SongA." You can always change the tag name before burning if the sequence changes because you are making a mix CD.

Please let me know if your problem is solved.

John

Thanks for the help John, but I don't seem to have any component called 'Track Agent' in Audio Cleaning Lab 15 Deluxe.

A search of the HELP file does not bring up anything.

I have set all the tags manually in the project, using the CD track list.

I then set a cleaning effect say, and then apply all real time effects. This creates a new .wav file. At no time am I given the option of including the ID3 tags in the new wave file.

When I start a new project, and import the new wave file, all the TAG (Track list) info is lost.

It looks like the tag info is saved not in the audio file, but in some other file.

However if I burn a CD, at least the track name is somehow transferred to the CD because it will show up on a properly equipped CD player. Not sure about the other tags.

Reason I want to propagate track List info from wav to wav is that I want to print CD inserts and TOC's when I mix and match and create various CD's. I would like these inserts to include the artist, etc. as well as just the track name.

At this point MP3's are not my  main focus. Perhaps I misled you with the term ID3  in the title of the quesiton.

Thanks,

greg

Hi Greg,

I have version 2013 or version 19. Magix may have added the Track Agent feature somewhere along the line. I just press on "L" and up comes the Track Agent. When I check the properties in Windows Explorer after creating an MP3, all my track information is still there. Same when I reimport the track into ACL to create a mix CD, and the information is available for creating a TOC or disk label.

Your problem is probably that the old version of ACL can't handle the ID3 tags. You may want to consider upgrading.

Good luck,

John
