Saving a Manually Made Effect

nirvanray wrote on 8/6/2012, 4:35 AM

Dear George,

Thanks for the mail. Just two doubts.

What is Automate that you told me about. Please define it and how can I use that and where do I use that.

Secondly what is the effects that you remarked about that I can save it in My Pressets. How can I do that and where can I use that. I thought that Save Effects mean that I can manually make some effects and save them accordingly. However as you said it is not the case.

Will be thankful if you do help me out about these two issues.

Regards.

Right click on your object and pick 'Video effects' >> 'Save video effects...', as explained under 'Help' and a search for 'save video effects'.

ADDED:

Right click on you clip and on the same menu is 'Load video effects...' which should point to the user's effects folder where you have just saved. Did you give your effect a meaningful name?

Note also the 'Copy...' and 'Insert...' options if you want to apply an effect elsewhere in your project but don't need to save it for further use.

Regards,

Carl

Hi Anirban,

When you save the effect, give it a name that you will remember.  When you need it back, you can find it in the effects tab under "My presets" if you save it to the default location.  You could create a folder in some other location, and then open that folder under the import tab and get it that way.

The default location is

C:\ProgramData\MAGIX\Movie_Edit_Pro_MX_Premium_Download_Version\UserVideoEffects

Anirban,

Now I see what you are trying to do.  You are basically creating a "flashback" effect.  This is now actually getting into the way the program operates, and I am no expert at that.  I cannot create a way to make this effect repeatable other than to re-insert both the effect and the audio each and every time I want to use it within MEP.  I think you may be asking that this program be able to do things that are beyond the capability of a application in this price range.  MEP does a lot for around $130, but it cannot do everything that we would like it to do for the price that we paid.  You may well be able to purchase another application that will better meet your needs, but you will pay over 10 times what this application cost, be into the realm of high end production sofware, have very little technical or user support, and likely still not get what you are looking for because those products are designed for producers who understand all of the technical aspects of creating digital or "non-linear" video.

If it were me, I would not worry about trying to "automate" this, I would simply make the audio file the length that I want, re-insert the white transition, and place the audio where it needed to be, and I would do this at the frame or 5 frame level.

Hi Anirban,

I used the term "automate" to mean the ability to repeat the effect exactly as you had intended.  In the case of this "flashback effect" I do not see that as being a realistic possibility.  Having said this, I do like the concept of the "flashback" effect and I will continue to look for ways to make this effect work.  I will defininetely let you know if I discover an answer to this.

Ok, as for saving effects, I create a "standard intro" using say a jet taking off with the audio behind it.  I save that as something like "standard take off" in my "presets" folder.  Now I can use that as the intro to any video that I want that involves travel.  That is what I meant.

Where did Automate and flashback enter the discussion? In private emails? It's generally considered best practice in these forums to keep everyone fully informed in the thread itself, and to use PMs for additional or private conversations. That way we all get the chance to contribute and learn.

If I'd have replied to the original post, it would have been essentially the same as Carl's response. Can you tell us if you tried that and if so why it doesn't answer your question please?

Hello,

I would agree with terrypin here.  I think what has been happening is that Anirban is editing the original post as he gets more information and has further questions.  Just a different approach, but makes it difficult for someone else who is trying to help to see the whole stream of the discussion.

Terry, the terms Automate and Flashback were terms that I used to describe what I  saw based on the discussion.  And yes I have sent Anirban private messages asking for further clarification and I apologize if this got the discussion off track.

The reason that Carl's response will not work is that the effect that is trying to be created here is a "fade through white" effect combined with a audio effect.  Well that combination cannot be saved as a effect file. The audio component is the problem in making this a repeatable effect.

I apologize if I caused any confusion.
