Samplitude X8 - Setup

Samplitude X8 - Grid setup, snapping to grid and samples automatically matching set BPM.

Evening all,

I've been using Acid 11 for a while now but I'm getting annoyed with VSTs not working so I'm looking at switching to Samplitude X8.

When I open a new project in Acid the grid is already there with a default BPM of 120. I can then drag samples on to the grid which snap to it and if a samples BPM is slightly different it automatically changes to the set BPM.

I am playing around with a trial version of Samplitude X8 at the moment which appears to have a different way of doing things. Is there a way I can have this setup in Samplitude X8 and if so how do I set it so it is the default.

In Samplitude, you can have and use template projects.

Upon startup, you select your setup. Set the starting number of tracks, etc.

Click on Project Options:

This is where you can set other parameters, like the starting BPM. This will be remembered for the next time.

Or create a template with everything and save it for reuse. Etc.

Note that you can have multiple projects open at the same time.

Samplitude starts with the BPM indicated. You can change it, have multiple BPM, ritardando, etc.

If you import a song with the beat defined in the audio file, it will be detected and put on the arranger correctly. You will probably have to adjust the tempo yourself, but there is probably a parameter to do this automatically.

Check the object properties and select Original BPM and you can analyse the song. You can change the BPM to the song BPM at the location of your choosing.

I'm a novice, but the program is very sophisticated and requires a lot of learning.

Hi John,

Thank you for the info, very much appreciated.

Samplitude is a lot different, to me anyway, compared to Acid and Music Maker, which I have been using but both those DAWs appear to struggle with VSTs, hence why I'm looking at this DAW.

What you advised is very useful, I just need to work out how to get a sample to automatically match the set BMP rather than go through the process of adjusting each of them individually. There doesn't appear to be that option in the setup boxes you posted, as far vas I can see.
