Samplitude Suite - Where is Spectral Layers?

tim-stannard wrote on 11/29/2018, 4:06 PM

There doesn't seem to be a Magix tech support section for Samplitude - if there is one perhaps someone could direct me to it.

But maybe someone here might be able to assist anyway. I just bought the Samplitude Pro X3 Suite bundle with Spectral Layer Pro 4, Birdline Platinum Pack, Melodyne Essentials and Sound Forge Pro 11.

I ran the installation download and this offered installation of Samplitude, Melodyne Essentials, Birdline and Sound Forge.

I sleceted Samplitude and Melodyne Essentials only (not interested in Birdline - which appears to be skins - or Sound Forge 11 as I alreday own it and have it installed) I presume Melodyne is installled as it appears as a plug-in.(Perhaps someone can confirm we don't get the stand-alone version)

No mention of Spectral Layers though. Anywone know where it might be? It's listed on the invoice, but not among my registered products under my account on the Magix site.

Hi,

Likewise, I'm a brand new Samplitude X3 Suite user. Spectral Layers 5 is a separate download which should be listed in the email sent to you right after purchase. There is a download link and serial numbers in the email I received.

Thanks Will,

You're right. It was there all the time staring me in the face. Sorry for wasting everyone's time.

Hah,

Also guilty of the same .....

Done just that too many times myself.

Good luck Tim,

@Will-Kenworthy Can you let me know how you get on loading Spectral Layers from Samplitude please? I can't seem to press play once the sample load into SL5 in order to hear it. Could be the way mine loads but if others have the same problem a fix might be needed from magix. Thanks!

@CosmicOutpost I'm seeing the same behaviour here. I can edit and save the edited version back to Samplitude but play does not work in SL4 (cursor does not move)

Also, if I load Soundforge 11 from within Samplitude, I get no audio output (but the timeline cursor moves when i hit play and the meters respond to the audio under the timeline cursor.

Disclaimer: I don't have either SL or Samplitude or SF, but I suspect that when using Samplitude your audio driver is ASIO? If so, that is likely to be the reason for the "silent" apps, since the standard which Steinberg originally created dictates that ASIO can see and use only one input source at a time, in your cases, Samplitude . Thus, when you open SL or SF inside Samplitude, neither can access the audio drive since it is already allocated to the "host" program.

Can Samplitude use a different audio driver, e.g. Wave or Direct Sound? Either of these is likely to greatly increase latency within the app and so will not be suitable for overdubbing work, but should allow you to "hear" the output from SL or SF.

I'm sure you're right @emmrecs, as for the audio not being heard, but (as far as my limied knowledge of this goes) isn't it recommended to use an ASIO driver? If so, you would think it would work some way (eg by the output from SF or SL when used as a plug-in somehow being routed back via Samplitude)

As for the inability to play back at all (as opposed to just not being heard) the audio driver is clearly nt the problem.

@tim-stannard

isn't it recommended to use an ASIO driver?

Indeed it is since ASIO completely bypasses all the Windows Audio processes which are often of very poor audio quality and can add considerable latency to the signal, a real problem when attempting to overdub. But, it is inherently limited to ONE audio input source at a time.

If SL and SF were able to function as plug-ins to Samplitude then yes, at least in theory, the ASIO problem would be by-passed. However, I suspect they are actually working as "Extensions", rather than plug-ins so do not/cannot route their audio via Samplitude.

As for the inability to play back at all (as opposed to just not being heard) the audio driver is clearly nt the problem.

I'm not so sure! Almost ALL playback problems with the various DAWs I've used over the years have been traceable to the fact that the particular program does not or cannot access the audio driver which has been chosen somewhere in its settings. Often, even the cursor does not scroll; clearly your installation of SF11 is not so "badly" affected.

Hi guys,

Sorry it took me awhile to reply, been preoccupied ....

I've seen this behavior for quite awhile regarding ASIO. I always use ASIO unless I'm not connected to my RME Fireface. I just save out what I want to open in SF and then open the file within that program. Not ideal but workable. Generally for SF it will be a final mastered project anyway. I haven't had a chance to use Spectral Layers yet as I just got the package (Samplitude X3 suite with SFP 11 and SPL 5) and am still learning Samplitude.

I am pretty grateful for the deal Magix offered for all that software. I've been stuck in the whole SONAR - Gibson thing which basically left me without a DAW. Bandlab has their own situation to deal with and aren't much help at all leaving that DAW (at least for me) without support.

So, I'm switching to Samplitude and I'm really liking it. Actually seems a much more serious DAW. I'll get to SPL 5 soon as well.
