samplitude music studio 14: can't burn cd's anymore

i'm using samplitude music studio 14 & everything has been working
absolutely fine so far, but now for some reason i suddenly can't seem
to burn cd's anymore. whenever i try, the program starts searching
for a cd drive and then asks for an empty cd, but won't recognize
neither. when i press cancel, i get some error message telling me
some blabla about my drive being to fast (which is one thing i really
can't imagine about my old toshiba-burning-thingie).

as mentioned, burning used to work absolutely fine until now (and it
still does with any other software, so i don't assume there's anything
wrong with the drive), and i haven't made any significant changes to
neither system configuration (the system is win xp sp3, in case that
matters) nor project- or program options, i didn't even install any
software, updates, drivers or anything, so i really can't figure out
what happened.

somewhere here in the forum, i found something about burning
routines, i installed those, this didn't change anything. uninstalling
and reinstalling didn't change anything as well, the same thing with
two cleaning tools i found in the download area (install-clean and
dv-driver-correction), didn't help anything either, so now, i'm
afraid, i can't think of anything else, except for banging my head
against the wall or such maybe.

so, i really hope someone can help me with this one, i really need
to burn.

Have you installed any new software into the system since the last time you were able to burn with the Music Studio program?

You might have other burning software running, even if in the background, so therefore the magix software cannot obtain information about the burner anymore.

I would try doing this...

go to the start button of Windows, then to the run function, and type in msconfig... there look for the tab startup...

Now in startup, that list with the green check marks are programs that start automatically when you turn your computer on... any one of these could be the cause. I recommend dis connecting for the internet, then using the disable all button from the start up tab.

Reboot the computer, and as windows starts you get a warning message stating that you are starting from a selective startup... i recommend just pressing okay, but don't tell it to stop showing you the message. you might need to turn things back on later so this is a good reminder.

Once you are started again, nothing should be running in the background, you should tart the Music Studio program and see if you can burn now.

If you can, then you know something in your startup is causing an error, if you cannot, then you will need to talk to MAGIX support

thank you, this didn't solve the problem, but it kind of pointed me into the right direction - it appeared that the problem wasn't music studio, but some vicious
rootkit-infection that went undetected by previous malware-scans. after some
rather hard times getting the damn crap off my system, everything's burning
smoothely again, thx!
