Samplitude 15 Play problems

kegraham wrote on 9/26/2009, 12:33 PM
I just installed Samplitude 15 on my laptop and I am having problems with getting songs to play. If I create an object e.g. using the synth section, it plays ok. if I add a second object on track 2, the play button no longer seems to work. Also, the same things happens if I modify the object on track 1 e.g. by stretching to create a longer loop.

(I am running on Vista, using only the Sony laptop's sound card.)

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Kevin

Hi Kevin,

Sounds odd, but I'd definitely try to optimize the audio driver settings in the program first of all. Open the program settings in Music Studio 15 ("Y" key) and switch to the detailed "Advanced" mode. You should now see a tree view on the left-hand side of the settings dialog to navigate all the different aspects of the program. In "Audio system", make sure to switch the driver system to ASIO and configure either the generic "Magix Low Latency 2008" driver under the "ASIO Device" drop-down list or install the free ASIO4ALL. Now try again. You might want to play with the buffer sizes later as well. One way or the other, you might not get much joy out of using this audio software with your on-board sound hardware. A dedicated audio interface is probably in order here. You can find ones that connect to a laptop via USB or FireWire. There are PCMCIA-based ones as well, but those seem more like a pretty marginal solution. A USB interface seems to be the weapon of choice for most "laptop musicians".  :-)

Good luck!
