Safe to delete files from "MAGIX Downloads" folder?

benedictrattray wrote on 12/19/2017, 1:33 PM

I've been trying to clear up some space on my computer and found over 13GB of files in the "MAGIX Downloads" folder. Is this a file for temporary download files or are the files inside necessary? They're all .exe files for all the add-on packs I downloaded etc. and wasn't sure whether they are still necessary after installation.

Thanks

Hi

When you installed all the add ins you were asked whether you wanted to keep the files - you must have clicked yes, which is the reason the files are there.

Should you need to re-install the software then keeping these files will greatly reduce the time needed to get the program back up and running - otherwise, if you delete them, then they will all have to be downloaded again.

The option is yours to decide.

Hi, welcome to the Magix forums.

As you say, the files in that Downloads folder are the installers for any add-ons, patches etc. for your Magix programs. If you are running short of disc space then yes, you are not likely to experience problems if you delete them; they should always (within reason) be available to re-download should you require them. But, in the event of a reinstall of any one or more of them becoming necessary in the future, if you have them still stored somewhere (perhaps on an external drive) you will not need to wait for any download to happen but can merely run them from the storage location.

In my case, I tend to move them from the designated Downloads folder to a folder on an external USB2 drive that I keep specifically for storing any and all downloads.

OK, thanks! I'll move them to my external hard drive. There's much more room on there.

Hi,

The best way is to keep the file or copy the file on a USB key this the minimum security to avoid to download all files if you need to reinstall the program.
