Royality Free music

paulsweigert wrote on 9/19/2023, 10:39 AM

On the web site it says "Whether you need music, sound effects, stock footage, or animations, MAGIX Content provides subscription users with an unlimited collection of royalty-free HD videos and audio files. Download up to 20 files every month for permanent use." but when I use the music and post it to YouTube I get a copyright claim. I must be doing something wrong?

Thanks

Hi Paul.

You are not doing anything wrong.

Copyright free is not the same as having a Royalty free music file. You need to have both or an original piece of music to avoid a copyright claim. Depending on usage will depend on the amount to be paid and is normally linked to how many times the music is accessed. The Producer Planet music tracks are available to use with an added charge for the additional licence. Alternatively there are sites that provide both Royalty and Copyright free tunes and songs, including YouTube. There may be tracks available via the Producer Planet website that are both Royalty and Copyright free, I have no idea. You would have to look closely at the download terms and conditions to each track offered.

As with all advertising, Magix do not mislead in what they publish in the information of their products but do seem to like to leave out information that can catch the uninitiated in my personal opinion. This can also be true of samples used to make your own tunes from an audio editing package so one has to be very careful and actually read the licence agreement for anything offered on any site.

A copyright strike on YouTube is not always a completely scary thing or will make YouTube take down your channel, but it may make the video impossible to ever monetise as the copyright or royalty fees will be split from the advertising revenue of that video to the artist who created it and the agency responsible for its distribution. You will get the choice to silence the offending track or replace it if you wish to have the copyright strike removed.

Hi

. . . . when I use the music and post it to YouTube I get a copyright claim . . . .

To add to @CubeAce, this is an unfortunate situation which has affected many users.

The big issue is that there are persons and entities, who provide a service to music creators, who apply for Youtube Content ID unscrupulously declaring that the music is their own work and they own copyright.

This is completely against the End User Terms and Conditions for the sound loops, and music provided by Magix that can be used in your projects.

Copyright always resides with Magix and is non-transferable.

You can file a complaint with YT against the person/entity making the copyright claim adding and quote the source of the music, the EULA, and if possible links to the music source used, eg producer Planet, Sound Blocks etc.

To add to John's comments.

Here is a link to the Producer Planet website relating to the cost of royalty associated fees from their site as well as the terms and conditions. But As I said, YouTube have a huge library that have tracks that are both royalty and copyright free and there are other sites that can be found doing the following Google Search.

Hi Paul,

Are you getting the copyright claim from some company representing someone who used the music or from some company representing Storyblocks?

There have been several posts on the Vegas forum about this as they got access to the same content about a year ago.

According to one post, you can dispute it with the following language:

Please release this copyright claim as I have acquired this audio content from MAGIX (a Storyblocks API Partner) legitimately. Please find attached the End User License Agreement between Storyblocks and MAGIX end users that outlines my license to use this material. Please reach out to my Storyblocks Account Manager, Shelby Wolford, at shelby@storyblocks.com if you have any questions.

And should you need to attach the EULA, just find file EULA in VPX Program Files folder, then upload it to your google drive or dropbox etc... then share the link in the YouTube message.

The poster has tested it on one of his videos and the dispute release process done very quickly. However, every time that he used the same music in another video, he had to go through the same process.

Here is the link to the same message as above from the Vegas product chief that you may want to review.

Check out the image in the first post of the above link.

Edit: me, being a curmudgeon, if the claim is from someone or company that is not really the copyright holder and has just used the music in their video, I let them know that they do not own the copyright to the music, that they only have a licence to use the material the same as I do, and that should they continue to claim copyright, we, the users, will file multiple complaints with YouTube and, according to the YT terms, their channel could be shut down.

Can someone instruct me how to find the free StoryBlocks or Magix Content for the 365 version of Video Pro X15? It has changed from prior times when I've used it.

Now I'm seeing a new-to-me MAGIX Hub (on the File menu), which adds a Tab (after Import, Effects, Templates, Audio, Store, MAGIX Hub). It shows that I have an active subscription and have 20 monthly downloads available.

But then nothing...

There is only a Log Out option. So, I'm not sure where to access files.

(Previously, there was a new StoryBlocks window that opened -- only when using VPX -- but not this Magix Hub tab. And it was accessed from the menu. I'm no longer seeing it.)

Meanwhile, the Store (tab) content is previewable, but has charges associated with all the content. So, I'm not sure if this is where it's moved to.

I'd love some assistance.

Thank you, team.

I was able to solve it.

In case this helps anyone else:

When you click on the MAGIX Hub tab, it loads your profile.

(Like Mac programs that try to be stealth and presume inside knowledge) you need to press the HOME icon to access Stock Content and/or Text to Speech.

Then for anyone who wonders WHERE Magix is auto-saving your downloads, as there is no longer any prompt for where to save; I just found my audio file here:

Look in the Import menu tab. See the dropdown file structure options.

Below Recordings are: Travel route, Cloud import, MAGIX Hub, and Downloads.

The downloaded files are NOT in the Downloads folder. But in the MAGIX Hub folder.

Now where to find them on your PC? That's another matter.

The Magix Hub address line (above) on mine has defaulted to my One Drive folder. So, in my case it READS:

M:\OneDrive\Documents\MAGIX\Video Pro X15\Magix Content.

However, in File Manager, not finding a Generic Magix folder I found it with this slight alteration:

M:\OneDrive\Documents\MAGIX Projects\Video Pro X15\Magix Content.

For those of us who sometimes use VPX Pro on 2 PCs, this default can be advantageous. In my case, I decided to move my locally stored prior downloads to this location to join my new downloads.
