I wonder if there's a way to handle this situation...
I have been given an MP4 to edit, and when I load it into Movie Edit Pro MX Plus, it appears side-on in the viewing window.
So I select the movie on the timeline and apply:
Effects --> Movement effects --> Rotation/Mirror
And I do a 90° rotation.
That brings the movie the right way up, but it then appears full height in the viewing window, but only about a quarter of the viewing window in width.
Not at all easy to solve without affecting the original footage. (Content of each frame becomes either stretched wide or truncated at the top or bottom, or a combination of the two.)
You need to use some of the other options within that Effects>Movement Effects tab, specifically a combination of Size/Position, Section and Camera/Zoom. You will need to experiment to determine which of these or which combination of them gives the "best result".
You just need to get a little creative.
WhenI run into this situation I like to keep it simple. I like to display clips like this that don't fil the screen with a non-distracting background. Here is the technique I use. I also use this technique with photos that don't fill the screen.
1. Rotate the clip the way you sad. The clip is on track 1
2. Make a copy of the clip and move the copy to track 3 (using 3 instead of 2 assuming there is a sound track). The easiest way to make a copy is to click on the clip while holding the ctrl key and drag the clip to track 3 or whatever your desired track is..
3. Remove the soundtrack from one of the clips. You can either set the volume to 0 by draggind the colume level down in the timeline, or ungroup the sound from the clip and delete it.
4. Now we will create the background. Select the clip on track 1 which will be your background clip.Using the Size/Position effect, drag the ends of the clip to make it full screen. Then using the sharpness command make it blerry by setting the sharpness to 0. Then using the color command reduce the saturation to your liking. You can even adjust the tint of the background if you wish.
Now you have a simple background. with oiur rotated clip on top.
If you have multiple clips like this, just copy the effects on the background to the new clip. I actually have some presets saved so I can do this quickly.
