Revolta 2 Playback skipping/buffer

Gary-Kargakos wrote on 1/22/2019, 3:34 PM

When using the software instrument "Revolta 2", which I added to my arranger as a separate track, the audio playback buffers or skips. I've increased the multitrack size, sample size, and the buffer size to the max. But it still skips. I really don't know what I am doing, so please help, before I screw it up some more.

Hi, welcome to the Magix forums.

I think the problem here is Intel(R) Pentium(R) CPU N3540 @ 2.16GHz 2.16 GHz Processor, 4.00GB Installed RAM. Your processor just about meets the minimum spec for running MM; your RAM is more than the minimum but, with a 64 bit OS, 4GB is really "pushing it" somewhat. To run the OS and programs, really 8GB is the advised minimum!

Especially since you are attempting to use Revolta 2 which is a pretty "big" instrument, requiring a lot of CPU horse-power to work.

I hope others may be able to offer you more positive advice, but my feeling is that you may need a new or, at least, considerably upgraded computer to have this work flawlessly, sorry! ๐Ÿ˜ญ

@Gary-Kargakos

Hi

I can only backup what Jeff has told you.

Windows 10 will be eating up about half of the available RAM ie ~ 2GB, leaving insufficient for Music Maker (MMM) to use.

Working with Soundpools MMM should playback reasonably smooth, however when using the Instruments/Synthesizers, it will struggle because of the increased load and lack of available RAM - Windows will be doing a lot of paging, ie using the hard drive as a temporary storage for swapping in/out blocks of memory, which can cause delay/skipping issues such as you are experiencing.

If you are wanting to use multiple synthesizers in a project than, IMHO, you need an Intel i5 or i7 generation 6 or newer computer with at least 16GB of RAM in the computer.

***BEWARE*** MMM is a 32bit software. 16Gb is good standard for modern computers in general. However, it is useless to have more than 8Gb solely for MMM, as it will only be able to use around 4Gb of your total RAM (just saying because the price of RAM is still high IMO). It is very unfortunate, but it looks like it's the reality. MMM gave me "out of memory" errors in the past, while half of my 16Gb of RAM was still unused.

Very true.

. . . . . However, it is useless to have more than 8Gb solely for MMM . . . .

I would agree however if only MMM is running, in my experience over the years, with literally thousands of users, running just one program at a time is a rare occurrence.

When it comes to Antivirus programs - there are at least two AV suites which are known to be resource hungry and one, which shall remain nameless, has been known to bring low spec systems almost to a virtual stand still.

@johnebakerย Agreed. So I guess we could say that 8Gb is very do-able, but 16Gb is still more recommended. :)

I haven't really had any problems yet with my Core i3, 4GB laptop. I do keep it fairly clean and no nasty anti virus resource hogs - just Windows Defender for that.
