Resizing a speech balloon

I'm trying to resize a speech balloon to fit some text. I mean to place them in a video. I finally figured out that there are really two objects, the text, and the balloon itself. But I still can't do anything with either. I tried to ungroup the two. But still no luck. If I click on the timeline track that has "balloon" in it's title, nothing happens. I cannot get any control handles on the screen to stretch or reshape the balloon. I am very frustrated by this program. NOTHING is easy. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'd be very happy to hear I've been making a stupid mistake. Thanks.

Hi,

Select the balloon. Go to effects...Size/Position/Rotation and Apply Effect. The handles should now be there.

Thanks for the reply. I am assuming when you say click the balloon you mean the timeline track of the balloon? When I try to click on the balloon on the screen, I get a "title" box. I will try again. Thanks.

OK. I tried it. When I got to the apply effect option, I saw a cell that said "Position Rotation,..." etc. Beside these are dropdown arrows. This produces a menu about "curves". deleting curves, copying curves, off set. There are no handles on the balloon. And no way to increase or decrease any of the settings. Only the menu about the curves. So, did I get it wrong? When you said click on the balloon you must've meant the balloon in my video window. But I cannot select it from there. AAAARRGGGHHHH. Sorry, that slipped out. It is such a simple task. It is very frustrating. It should be as simple as clicking on the text. Handles appear. Stretch them as desired. Click on the balloon, handles appear, adjust the balloon's handles as needed. Done. I'll calm down. and try again later. Thanks for your patience.

Added: - if you cannot see the handles of the balloon object hold down the Ctrl key and use the mouse wheel to zoom out.

Alternatively, click the 'Hamburger' menu top left of the preview screen and reduce the Zoom factor, to see the handles.
