Repeated Crash "MPEG2.DLL" in Movie Edit Pro MX Plus

amirkaufmann wrote on 7/28/2012, 9:00 AM

In recent couple of months I have repeated and incraesing crash problem with my Movie Edit Pro MX Plus.

I am working on a big film project, and now I came to a crissi point taht I cannot work at all.

more data on the problem:

1. At first it happened once in a while, and as far as I paid attention to it, re-starting allowed to continue work.

2. Later, the problem became more frequent, and as far as I understood it, it came more when I opened film file with more data in it.

3. Now, it happens all the time.

4. So far what I did was:

a. re-installing twice the MX software. did not help.

b. checked for Mpeg2.dll, but as far as I checked, the definitions in my windows xp pro were good. it fits the fact that I could work sometimes properly.

c. checking (and fix/recover/defragment) both hard drives (wre the MX is and the film data).

d. called a computer technician. He verified my computer stands in the minimal system needs. As of his recommendation (to stand int he recommended needs) I changed screem card to Asus EAH6850.

nothing helps.

The status now is sharp and critical: upon opening the file (in which the film under edit is spread) - and even without doing nothing - the software crashes.

The crash message is:

Error in module 'MPEG2.DLL' (Load address: 0x0aaa0000) to address oxoaab9586 Exception 0xc0000005 "ACCESS_VIOLATION"

I would really appreciate a tip how to deal and solve this problem.

My MEP16 began doing that shutdown. It was a legit version and only did it on one pc w xp and another with 7. I purchased mx and continued the work in it. MEPmx is good on my pc running win7. It has gorked during some projects, shutting off, and restarting (crash) usually when I am affecting the preset effects, but I am learning to work within the program to get the desired effects. I'm not a tech, hope you resolve. jc

@ esoteric

IIRC Dark Edition was not an official version of Windows XP from Microsoft, but a 'hacked' version containing many 'add ons' which, in some versions, included some 'nasties' which affect your privacy and your computer performance.

The use of none standard OS, including Beta and pre release versions, are difficult to diagnose where the problem lies.

Hello Amirkaufmann

The same error occurred last night on my computer. It's a brand new Dell with Windows 7, I've repeatedly sent the error file message to Magix, until sofar no answer. I hope the MX guys understand and take quickly action, I have a movie to finish in 1 week..

Let me know if you've found a resolution in the meanwhile.

Thanx, Arjan

Hello Arjan,

I could not avoid seeing and replying your message, although I will not be able to go into details.

This problem was resolved after a few weeks (almost a month) of constant consoltations with 4 fields of advisors: Magix for the MX, my audio technician for possible 44/48 KHz issues, My computer techncian (who arranged the new computer for me, in case of drivers, cards, hardware or any computer issues with the MX), and a special video expert, who volenteered to come over and verify things from his aspects.

All 4 checked, recommeneded etc, and this mix is beyond my capability to share now.

Even Magix support included 3 or 4 steps of emails with multiple online checks and advices: from reset, check software, drivers setting, version update etc.

All in all, not easy phase.

My project was frozen for a month. Some how it merged with other projects issues, but ever since I have a big red flag above teh computer. And I do not liek this uncertainty.

I do not know you and your computer's story, and am not an expert, but from my experience, a week with a stiff deadline seams not feasible. Magix replies came in days intervals (one time 2 days. the other - more), my problem seemed to go in between all 4 experts etc. The computer expert knew nothing of Magix, and MX of audio. etc.

I could simply wish you to find your solution.

Best

Amir
