Rendering in 4k

Kyle-day wrote on 8/7/2021, 9:21 AM

So I've just purchase movie studio 18 suite, I've started my first project with some GoPro footage all in 4k 30fps, finished editing it and the preview everything looks good. When I got to file drop down menu and try to export in mpeg-4 at 4k the first clip gets rendered fine then rest of video is a green screen. The finish movie button in top right hand corner of program doesn't give me the option for 4k

I don't know if I'm doing something wrong but can't figure this out, the description for this software said it can output 8k

@Kyle-day

Hi Kyle and welcome to the user to user forums at Magix.

Are all the Go-Pro files shot with the same Go-Pro and shot at the same frame rates using the same codecs and resolutions?

Are the files HEVC?

If so we may need to see the file data using MediaInfo using the text view as seen in this Tutorial.

How are you trying to export the file? Is it for burning to Blu-ray? I'm not sure why you are choosing the finish movie button for exporting. I know in VMS17 that was how to export a video clip but in this program you need to use File / Export Movie, and then select the export file type which will take you to the various export options for that file type.

@CubeAce

Hey cube

so first answer is yes all the clips are shot from the same GoPro, both are 4k but one clip is a timewarp and the other is 4K at 23fps and I believe they are HEVC files. I will post media info on both types of clips after this post.

I was trying to export the file as a mpeg-4 3840x2160 at 23.967fps

and I was just trying to find a way for it to work with the finish movie button

thank you for response, will post mediaInfo asap

@Kyle-day

Hi Kyle.

The only odd things I can see on the two files are the following lines.

Display aspect ratio                     : 16:9
Rotation                                 : 180°

This means the files are portrait. If the rotation is not picked up by MS 18 that could be the problem as the aspect ration for export would be wrong.

Also the two files are at different frame rates and means the program has to try either adding more frames to one clip or less frames to the other clip depending on the frame rate set for export. This is never a good idea and can cause crashes.

Not sure what can be done. I hope one of the more experienced users comes in on this for now with some suggestions.

Sorry to be not so useful.

Ray.

Hi Ray

Thank you very much for trying

I can add that I've tried just using the video parts so both clips would have been exactly the same and I still get this green screen preview thing and I've rendered it at 1080p and it works, so it's just the 4k rendering that isn't working

Hi Kyle.

It is possible your machine may not be able to render 4K files with Hardware acceleration switched on if your system spec does not support 4K editing with your hardware but may export if you switch off 'Use Hardware acceleration if possible' for export and playback in the program settings. It will take longer to export but may export correctly.

@CubeAce

I'm gonna take that as the answer then, my hardware is definitely not new haha.

I'll give that ago later, I can clearly see a difference in quality between the rendered footage original even though my system doesn't support 4k

Thank you for your help
