Hello,

Any instruments that show up as locked in Music Maker are locally installed on your system, but not currently licensed (via the in-app store system) to be used with Music Maker. If you simply want to remove such instruments, you could do so via the "MAGIX Content and Soundpools" entry that you will find under the installed programs and features in Windows. This tool will populate a list of MAGIX soundpools and software instruments, and will enable you to uninstall individual items from that list.

That said, you might want to reconsider why those instruments are installed on the system. Were they possibly installed by a different MAGIX product or different Music Maker version? Did you purchase the bundle of Music Maker (2018) Premium + Samplitude Music Studio by any chance? In this case, they may have been installed by that program. You would now be able to enter the serial number for Samplitude Music Studio into the "Activate Edition" dialogue in Music Maker. This will result in the instruments from that product being unlocked in Music Maker as well. You might want to explore this option.

Hi Ralf,

As well, instruments that were purchased through the Magix site, prior to the recent addition of the in-app Store to MusicMaker, remain locked. Putting in the activation code for the instruments does not work. I have raised this a couple of times with Magix and the only way seems to be to use the instrument coupons or to purchase them again through the in-app Store. Is there any other way to unlock these?

Hi John,

Unfortunately, there's no other way around this than the one you described. This is behaviour by design. The instruments either get authenticated via our traditional DRM/copy-protection (Protein), which is the case in the older versions of Music Maker and other MAGIX audio products, or they get authenticated via the in-app store back-end, which is the case in the current Music Maker generation. Both systems are essentially mutually exclusive. In order to mitigate the practical problems that arise from this for users of older versions (i.e. not being able to use the old instruments), there's the additional provision built into the software that will allow you to enter one of those older serial numbers into Music Maker, which will then result in the in-app store back-end server donating the instruments associated with that product to your in-app store account free of charge. However, these still remain two different systems, and there's no way to do the same with the individually purchased Vita solo instruments from (www.magix.com) that need to be activated via the challenge/response code procedure. Sorry.
