Is there any other way to remember the taught midi controller settings to the different instruments than saving a new preset for all the existing presets? Currently, if I take an instrument and connect the buttons, sliders and knobs to different parts like chorus, reverb, wetness etc. the system forgets those settings the instant I change to another preset.

That is, unless I save that particular preset separately, but that's silly if there are 300 presets with some instrument, that I'd have to set up the presets for each and every one of them and then save them separately, I don't think that's the point of setting them up in the first place... is it?

Any tips on how to accomplish this?
