@MAGIX_Redaktion

Greetings Stefan, I've been looking at this for most of the day since my MEP 2021 advised me with a popup that it was available.

Just one question if I may, when I install MEP 2022 how many of the NewBlue, ProDAD, HitFilm and Ignite effects I have installed with previous versions of MEP will I retain - all, some or none?

Thanks - AndyW

Thanks Stefan, that's good news. Most of the effects I have have been retained over various updates but I thought I would check.

@MAGIX_Redaktion

Hi Stefan.

I have one or two inconsistent problems with MEP 2022.

Namely loading older projects or maybe just more complex projects. I'm not quite sure which it is yet.

Assuming I have set up the program settings correctly and it doesn't crash as soon as I load a project, then

on average the project is playing back more smoothly. I noticed the default wave driver buffer and sampling amounts have gone up markedly but so far as far as I am aware has not caused any detrimental side effects.

Bye the way, neither of the statements in the info boxes in the image above are correct. I have the most up to date drivers and both GPUs exceed the minimum stated requirements. What actually triggered that problem was moving the program from one monitor powered by one of the GPUs to the other monitor powered by the other GPU.

What does seem to happen is such projects play but can cause random problems on shutdown. As in the project shuts down but the program sometimes refuses to shut down with it. If I then am forced to shut down the program using Task manager, the program loses some of its more important settings and resets to default settings. The project in such cases is never saved correctly and does not appear in the recent projects list, and if opened manually comes up as having crashed. Other projects though load OK, play OK, and save OK and have a 'Do you wish to save this project' warning on trying to close down the program.

The program when it refuses to close seems to think it still has an active project loaded. Look at the top bar of this closed project.

However if you try to open another project while the program is in this state I get this.

If I click 'Add new project', only one project is loaded and the top Program bar changes title.

Whenever the program refuses to close down I get this appear in Task Manager as well.

The project though still refuses to close after and any project saves or program settings are lost again.

As some projects save and close OK I will assume for now that new projects should behave OK.

I have further testing to do.

Ray.

I'm having a bad time.

When I open the audio cleaning window, and I think any window, the playback video goes black and won't play any video. I can hear the video being played, but the playback screen is black. If I click and drag to make a bounding box, it just makes them over and over.

EDIT: Other windows don't seem to do it. It's only when I open the audio cleaning window... so far.

@RandiRain

I have exactly the same problem and it is annoying,

I get round it by clicking on the little + sign that on the timeline that "creates a new movie within the active project" or by going into program settings and in device option change processing option to another selection, click ok then repeat changing back to your card. The first option is obviously the quickest.

I have commented on that here https://www.magix.info/us/forum/movie-edit-pro-premium-2022--1281581/?page=2

This morning I thought I would try a simple slide show. I loaded in 94 lo-res pictures @ 1024x768 from years ago

General
Complete name                    : C:\Users\Andrew\Desktop\Family 24.jpg
Format                                  : JPEG
File size                                : 158 KiB

Image
Format                                  : JPEG
Width                                    : 1 024 pixels
Height                                   : 768 pixels
Color space                          : YUV
Chroma subsampling           : 4:4:4
Bit depth                               : 8 bits
Compression mode              : Lossy
Stream size                            158 KiB (100%)

and the program instantly became very slow and virually unresponsive to any editing for 13 minutes with high disk use etc - see attached screenshot.

After saving the project, closing MEP 2022 and reloading the project the same thing happened but only for 3 minutes.

Your first solution, "creates a new movie within the active project", doesn't work for me. However, the second one does.

There's also a bug with the zooming in on the timeline. Sometimes when I click either to zoom in or out, vertically or horizontally, the window comes up like I right clicked on it. It's very annoying.

Also, none of the transition templates work in the playback. Only fading works. Any other transition template I use, does not show in the playback. It just jumps from one clip to the other.

I am shocked at just how bad this version is. I've been using Movie Edit pro for years now and have had at least four versions and it's never been like this.

I'm thinking about going back to 2021 version.

I've experienced that too. I actually though that I had right clicked so ignored it. But now you've mentioned it ....

Not tried templates yet.

I can't say that I'm "shocked at just how bad this version is". I also have been using MEP for many moons and, in my humble opinion, there have been far worse initial releases. I actually quite like this one despite it doing it's damndest to upset me.

Yes but we are looking at high disk usage and probably an associated process which may be slowing things down, also 4:4:4 and less compression = more data to scan.

@me_again

It looks a lot like a problem I came across a while back:- https://www.magix.info/us/forum/excessive-disc-reading-on-opening-vpx--1214496/ related to Defender scanning the files.

What other process is occurring that is related to Video Deluxe eg MsMpEng.exe when you click the sideways arrow next to MEP in Task manager?

I've done a bit more playing this morning starting starting with converting the troublesome files to 4:2:0 Chroma subsampling usnig an old version of Paint Shop Pro which for some reason doesn't do 4:2;2.

These modified picture loaded in MEP 2022 without a problem

I then tried modifying the test pictures I did at your request that are currently 4;2;2 to 4;4;4 and these loaded OK in MEP with high disk use for about 3 minutes then became "normal". However during the high disk 3 minutes, MEP worked OK with only slight hesitations.

Now, none of this means anything to me but a least I appear to have a work around i.e reprocessing the 4:4:4 Chroma subsampling 4:2:2.

Should I raise a support ticket on this or wait until others can duplicate the probelm?

@Scenestealer

MsMpEng.exe doesn't seem to be running on my system accourding to Task Manager Details. I use Norton 360 which allegedly disable Defender but I recall reading somewhere that Defender still raises it's head in the background somwhere. Either way I don't appear to have any access it to modify it.

MsMpEng.exe is on my system however, version 4.18.1909.6 date 07/12/2019

As for other processes associated with MEP I can see only Bridge32 and Updater

@johnebaker

Ouch - the no. 1 resource hog

I agree that is does occasionally try to take over but in this instance I think it is not the offender. It's main interference is the first computer boot in a morning that lasts for about 10 minutes while is scan I presume.

I've been using Norton either in the guise of Internet Security or for the past two years or so Norton 360 and it has never caused a problem with MEP (in any version over those years) that I've noticed.

I've disabled Norton 360 and reloaded the 4:4;4 photos project and it has had no effect whatsoever on hesitancy waiting times.

The attached screen shots were take within 1 minute of loading and with a computer reboot between test.

AndyW

The 2 screen shots show, I think, that Norton is not interfering with MEP

Hi Andy.

Which disk is showing activity? Is it an external USB device?

@CubeAce

Greetings Ray,

Unfortunately it's my system C: drive.

Occasionally the GPU shows up to 5% activity but only for a few seconds.

What I don't understand is that there is sometimes little CPU activity and at other times 10%+ when there is very little else using it - according to Task Manager anyway.

And why does every other type of photo and video behave perfectly? I've tried nearly every file I'm my arsenal without this problem, it's seems to be only photos with 4:4:4 chroma.

If it's a problem with MEP I'm happy 'cos hopefully it will be fixed. Thankfully the photos involved are the only ones I appear to have with this chroma sampling.

Having said that, I did a slideshow with these pics in MEP 2021 without a problem.

Ho hum. I still like this version though, even more so if I can conquer the size zoom position thing. I'm happy with rotation though.

@RandiRain

When I open the audio cleaning window, and I think any window, the playback video goes black

I've just found another way to get the preview back - just click the preview screen and click "fullscreen video monitor" and then unclick it.

Hi Andy.

A lot is not making sense right now with 2022.

I have my own problems with old projects loading and then the program won't shut down. A forced shutdown then stops any changes I've made within the program, like saving a folder location not to be recorded. It is slower on my machine exporting anything at 4K but faster at 1080p. When it doesn't crash it is smoother in use so far, so I guess it's swings and roundabouts for now.

As for size positioning, I use the mouse to place the image after sizing (also done with the mouse) and it hasn't hindered me much so far. I would like to be able to key frame without having to use the rotation controls though.

Ray.

That was the first thing I tried, and it doesn't work for me. Expanding it doesn't even work correctly.

I've been having the same, program hanging on exit, problem as @CubeAce with either big projects or MEPP 2021 projects. My older, smaller projects seem to exit the program fine, as normal. My 2021 projects happen to be projects on the larger side. Forced shutdown via Task Manager seems to be the only way to exit the program in that state.
I don't understand how MEP 2022 could exit the gates with a bug issue like this but I hope they have a fix ready very, very soon. I can't use it until MAGIX addresses this issue.
