I have used the software in the past to download videos. The software that cam with the capture device no longer workes. I downloaded a new copy of the software and it works, but as a trial version it is limited to 3 minutes. I need a serial number to register the software, but can't find a way to get it as apparently the software is sold out. How can I get a serial number to register the software I just downloaded?

Hi and welcome to the user to user forums.
Normally the program is only sold with the audio dongle and when they don't have a supply of the dongles the program goes off sale for a while.
I suggest you email Magix directly at infoservice@magix.net and ask explaining your situation.

Just to add a little to what @CubeAce (Ray) has written.
Unless you were able to download and install the exact same version as you originally had, (unlikely, because it may no longer be available or usable with more recent version of Windows) you have actually upgraded your installation to a later version. As such, you need to buy this new version; doing so will generate a new serial key for you.
However, have you checked your Magix account to see whether the installer for your previous version is listed there? If so, you can uninstall the later version and reinstall your original. Doing so will make your old serial key valid for use.

I tried loading the orriginal version, but it didn't work, so I downloaded the newer version because of changes in drivers and operating system that stopped it working, hoping that the new version would work and it does, only it is a trial version.

@martin-k9847 If your USB video grabber still works you can also use Magix Movie Studio/Video Deluxe/Video Pro X. You don't need to use Rescue your Video Tapes, any video recording software should work fine. The software might not be available because there are currently no USB grabbers in stock. Alternatively, if you also need a new grabber, you can also try to get another video grabber from sites like Amazon.

What changed on the computer between working and not working?
What is your computer soecification and Windows version see this topic for what is required and please quote the make and model of the processor and graphic card/chipset in full.

I think the moderators are over thinking my issue.
I have software and a dongle that currently works and allows me to transfer video to the computer. My issue is that the software is a trial version with its limitations and I can't find a way to get a serial key to ungrade it.
To answer some of your questions. I was running windows XP when I first bought the software. I am now running windows 11 on a new machine. Needing to transfer more video, I installed the original software on my windows 11 machine. The software appearded to work fine, but didn't register the dongle. Looking further I found the drivers for the dongle were out of date, so I updated the drivers. The dongle was still not registered by the software. Wondering if there was an inconsistancy between the original software and the updated drivers for the dongle, I uninstalled the original software and installed the latests video easy software from the internet. It is a trial version, but the combination works and I can transfer video to my computer.
What I need is a serial key to upgrade the trail version, to remove the limitations. So far I can't find a way to get the key. Hopefully you can help with that.
If it helps, the dongle I am running is from kaiser bass, DVDMaker v4, Model: KBA03001, S/N: Removed by Moderator.
The video easy software that is working is version 7.0.1.145.
To reiterate the situation, since it appears to have been missed by the responders. I don't need new software, I don't need a dongle, I just need a serial key. How do I get one.

Hi Martin.
Whether you have a dongle that works or not, the old software was at 'end of life' as soon as it was no longer supported by the new operating systems. That means you will have to buy the new version as it is not an update but an upgrade and as such considered a new program. There are no 'lifetime versions' of any Magix software that is not subscription based. You will either have to run Windows XP or find a way to get your old version of the software to work on Windows 11 which I don't think is possible. When I suggested you contact Magix it was to see if they would sell you the program only.

I suspect it will be cheaper than buying "Rescue your videotapes" ie the dongle is not included.
It's your version (7.0.1.145) and I have it working fine without a Magix dongle (I use a 3rd party dongle).

Ray, there are plenty. A program "may" not work with a newer operating system but if it does, then it will continue working indefinitely (unless it's subs-based; which will definitely stop functioning regardless of the OS). I still have 2021 installed and 2016 worked fine on Win 10. 2016 probably came out in the Vista era; certainly Win 7.

That question was answered much earlier in this thread: you need to buy the new version of the program. Sorry, there is no alternative!
BTW, I don't believe either @johnebaker or I were overthinking your issue. John asked about any error messages you see and I simply pointed out that the new version of your software which you now have needs a new serial key, available only if you buy the software.

I refer to 'lifetime versions' as you get with the paid full version of Da Vinci Resolve where people get the new version of the program at no extra cost. Avid promised the same then tried to remove it for the people that had it rather than remove that clause for new owners. Magix products only have official Magix support for the first year of purchase. If anyone can get an older version to work on a newer operating system then that's great but there is no implied guarantee from Magix or offer of a free upgrade.
