Recording using Midi keyboard: playing strength and timing issues

Hi everybody,

I've got the following setup:

  • Music Maker Control (Version 25.1.2.78)
  • USB Midi keyboard "Midistart 3" by "Miditech" (was included with MM Control)
  • USB audio interface (Behringer UMC204HD) with Midi input
  • "Yamaha Silent Piano" connected to said Midi input

I tested this setup and noticed the following:

  1. Tracks recorded via the "Miditech" keyboard sound a lot louder than those recorded with the Yamaha piano.
  2. The Yamaha piano registers the playing strength (depth and velocity at which keys are pressed) consistently, whereas the "Miditech" doesn't, i.e. on the "Miditech" keys played with approx. the same strength are quieter on some keys. Basically, keyboard dynamics is useless with the "Miditech".
  3. With both keyboard and piano, multiple keys pressed at the same time sometimes result in notes recorded at different times. However, this effect is not discernible when playing over the synth included with the Yamaha piano.

I'm a newbie regarding MIDI recording using a PC thus please bear with me if these observations are unsurprising to you. They are puzzling me, to say the least.

I appreciate any explanation that can help to mitigate these issues.

Thanks a lot!
