Recording too fast

Ruth-G wrote on 1/26/2021, 11:12 PM

Hi,

After an update from windows, Sound Forge Pro 12 - the pace and pitch of my recordings has been sped up. I always record at 48000, 16 bit, mono - I record the voice file and as I play it back it is pitched higher and plays faster - I haven't saved the file in a different rate. The only way I could get around it, was use pitch shift to put my voice back to it's correct pitch and speed - but I don't think this should be the long term solution. Any ideas?

@Ruth-G

Welcome to the Magix user to user forums.

Any ideas?

Just one: check the Windows Audio settings for whatever audio input you are using. By default, it tends to set itself to 44.1kHz, rather than 48kHz. It is more than possible that the Windows Update you mention has changed that setting.

This is something that quite regularly happens on my computer, even though I am using an external audio interface.

Check rate scrub fader setting at the bottom right of the timeline, the 'Normal rate' should be set to 1.00 .
If that is set correctly, check the file with MediaInfo to see the file's attributes. As Jeff stated, It 'sounds' like it was recorded at 44.1kHz and is playing back at 48kHz, which would increase the speed and pitch. Try changing the playback sample rate to 44.1k in the box at the bottom right of the timeline. If that plays back normally, re-sample it back up to 48k in the 'Process' menu.. assuming that is the sample rate you want.

Thank you @emmrecs and @rraud - the solution was in the Windows Audio settings. I can't tell you what a relief it is. Thank you both so much for coming back to me so quickly, it is genuinely appreciated.
