Record Keyboard Shortcut

PaulieT wrote on 8/4/2025, 4:51 AM

Hello,

I want to assign various functions in Sound Forge 10 (Windows) to the function keys on the keyboard. It's rather easy to do and I have many functions already assigned.

Ctrl+R opens the Record Dialog box, however I cannot seem to find the actual Record function (Alt+R) in the Customize Keyboard dialog box. Even trying to assign Alt+R to another function does not display what this Shortcut is Currently Assigned to. So, I am guessing it cannot be reassigned?

Similarly, I cannot find any shortcut for Arm. Even the manual does not mention a shortcut for Arm.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for your help.

Regards,
Paul

Hi

To find the editting location of a shortcut, in the Customize Keyboard dialog box, enter the short cut you want to find in the data entry box indicated in red the left image below, double the click the shortcut found in the lower box, black arrow, to open the actual shortcut for editing, right image.

Hi John EB,

I guess I didn't write my question well enough. I cannot find Alt+R in the Customize Keyboard dialog box. Alt+R toggles the actual recording process.

Thanks,
Paul

Hi @PaulieT, I think Alt+R is the keyboard shortcut default for "Global> Show/Hide Remote Record". If you wish to re-assign it to another command, remove that shortcut from 'show/hide remote' command first and then re-assign.
Ctrl+R is the default tor 'Start/Stop Record'. I have Ctrl+Alt+R assigned to record 'Arm" (aka, Record Ready). I have also added key commands that cannot be added with the custom key utility by editing the "keyboard.ini" file directly, But when I messed up, it reverted all the key commands back to the defaults, so now I make a copy of the good working file before adding other 'illegal' shortcuts.assigned to

A script is probably another option but that is not my area of expertise.

Hi

. . . . I guess I didn't write my question well enough.  . . .

Nothing wrong with your question, the answer I gave is a generic one for find an existing shortcut instead of wading through all the shortcut categories.

Click in the entry box as prevously shown, and press Alt + R and you will see it comes up under the Global category and performs the Show/Hide Remote Record function
