Recently Purchased Software Need Help Arranging Loops

ebs512 wrote on 12/30/2016, 6:08 AM

Hello,

I recently purchased the 2015 Music Maker Premium version software and am trying to make my own song. I go through and find/tune different sounds that I make. Then I start trying to arrange them in a proper, unique way but can't seem to get far enough into the project to want to finish it. I would like some type of information where I haven't found yet. A lot of tutorials I have watched just give an introduction but they don't teach you how to arrange your music so you can create a full, complex song. If anyone could help me that would be great!

Hi,

Once again, I got logged out before finishing the comment and pressing the button and lost everything, so here I go again.

My tutorial will give you some tools to get started and you should definitely watch it to make sure that you have everything.

From what I understand, you want a lot more - arranging music - and that is not something that you will find easily in a music/audio program. Arranging music, like learning to play an instrument, is an art that requires talent and learning over a long period. However, MusicMaker can help you with some of the basics to put together a song.

Here are a few things that may help you:

  1. Open some of the demo projects and observe how Magix puts together songs. Look at the instruments, cuts, fades, volume changes, effects, etc. to get a better understanding.
  2. If you have some Soundpools, some of them come with demo projects so look for the files finishing with .MMM and open them. They will give you information as in 1 above, but also for chord progressions.
  3. Look at Song Maker in MusicMaker, shortcut W, and you will see the basic structural elements of a song: Intro, Verse, Chorus, Bridge and Outro. Try making some songs with this to get a better understanding as to how to put everything together.
  4. Learn to use the Mixer (shortcut M) and panning (some instruments to the left, some to the right, vocals in the middle for example), volume automation, and adding effects like compression, equalization, reverb, etc.
  5. Learn about Mastering to give your song a final touch.

There is a lot more, but the above should give you some guidance.

Remember, a music editing program only gives you some tools, but creation is an art.

I was curious as to reading another post about not being able to create a song in Magix and be able to submit it due to loops not being made from scratch. I would eventually like to become an artist but I am new to all of creating music and this program. Thank you for your feedback it is greatly appreciated. Is there a way to easily create your own loops, import them into Music Maker and create your own song that you can share online and or potentially sell once I am able to get the basics down?

It seems that I misunderstood your first post in which you say that you are creating a song. If you are just stringing Soundpool loops together that were created by someone else, then you are not creating your own work. Reread the recent post about using Soundpools and licensing issues.

To create your own work, don't go into the Soundpools. Use the instruments and record your music into MIDI or play real instruments and record into MusicMaker. Record your singing - all of songs that you make up. And do all of the things that I mentioned.

As for making your own loops, why? If you create a short piece of music that repeats, then you can use that as a loop. Look at what a loop is. Example, strum a guitar 4 times and record it. If you want 16 bars of 4 strums, then you simply copy the loop 16 times rather than strumming 64 times. That is the basics and reason for making loops. Or you can just strum the guitar 64 times.

Watch my tutorial that John EB mentioned and my other one about using MusicMaker to dub videos for Movie Edit Pro. You will see an example of putting together various pieces.

Have fun!
