In your manual under the heading"Record what you hear" a hint given is that the stereo mixer must be active. How do I determine if the stereo mixer is active?

The best answers for "Stereo Mix" you can search on Google. There is a list of how to enable this.

Just search for example " Stereo Mix (your operating system)"

Once enabled you will have this option to record. Keep in mind not all sound cards support this feature.
