question on license transfer

I have scoured Google twice now and these forums, cannot seem to find the info anywhere. I only found an old message thread from 2004! What I want to know is this - if person A wants to sell a license to person B of Magix software, let's say for example, Pro X3 Suite, but person A has already upgraded to Pro X4 from Pro X3 Suite... can person B then upgrade to Pro X4 Suite on the resold Pro X3 license?

Also, where does one sell licenses? I did not see this anywhere in my account.

From what I understand, unlike other software makers, Magix lets you keep the old version and the new version separately, so you can sell one or the other. You don't have to sell the old one and the upgrade together. But from the old thread I found, it appears the older license, if used to upgrade from once already, is now locked at that old version in perpetuity.

So is this true or not? At first, I thought cool, so that is why upgrades cost so much, because we can sell our old versions! But if the old versions are locked out from any upgrades, then they're pretty much worthless, aren't they. So why create this whole mess and waste of people's time trying to figure the system out, why not just burn the old license and issue the new upgrade license so there's no confusion?

Thank you!

@Equalizer

Welcome to the Magix forums.

I wonder whether you might receive more "helpful" replies if you register at and post to the dedicated Samplitude forum here?

Or, use the Contact button in the footer of every forum page to contact Magix support and ask them?

Hi! Wow, I never even saw that other forum. Sorry if I missed a link to it somewhere? It does seem more for usage of the program, not licensing questions, so this general forum still seems more like the place? But definitely good to know. The forums here do seem pretty... dead. 😱😨😱

I did submit a support request also, but I assume Magix is out of office until Monday morning, and was hoping to get some info from other users who might have done such recent license transfers, and upgrades from transfers.

I mean, pretty much any other plugin or software maker has at least a good FAQ, if not an entire section in their user account portals, to facilitate license transfer requests (and in some cases, like NI, completely automated). I can find nothing at all about it anywhere in the FAQ, My Magix Account, or indeed, all the major forums. :)

@Equalizer

Thanks for the update.

No, I agree it is not the "easiest" to find!

Magix, as a German company, will certainly be "out of the office" for the weekend so it is likely to be at least Monday before you receive any sort of reply.

However, I might speculate a little about the answer to your specific query. As I understand it, serial numbers are linked, in the Magix database, to Magix accounts; it is the holder of the account who chooses to pay for any upgrade and who, therefore, is "entitled" to it. The transfer of the licence key from the original purchaser, by "sale to a new user" does NOT transfer any upgrade rights which the original purchaser/account holder had, IMO.
