Can Magix Movie Studio 2025 export to ProRes 422 format? Or do I need to upgrade to Vegas Pro 22? If it is possible, please let me know how it can me done. thank you. :)
I need to create a video for a an upcoming concert, and their requirement is ProRes 422. There is a HEVC output on Movie Studio. Do you think I can use that export? Thank you for your feedback.
I agree with Gid's comment 'I don't think they have anything in common so you'd have to work that out with the concert people' .
Exporting as MP4 and then converting to Prores is not advisable, the formats, while using a similar encoding process, are very different.
Prores is an All Intra encoded, ie every iframe contains the all the image data, high quality video format intended as an intermediate delivery format for use in, for example, further editing for broadcast TV, Blu-ray production and commercials etc,
Exporting to MP4 (h.264) will result in a lower quality video due to the encoding removing a lot of image data, and re-encoding the mp4 to Prores will not improve the lower quality video.
What is the video format, encoding and resolution that you are editing?
If you cannot provide Prores format video, you need to go back to the concert people as Gid suggested.
Hi. Thanks for both of your input. I'm using movie studio. The original video was from 2017, and was recorded with my old Sony. MTS format. Thanks again
. . . . original video was from 2017, and was recorded with my old Sony. MTS format.. . .
What is the MTS video file resolution and frame rate? I suspect it will be 1920 x 1080 25fps or 29.97 fps interlaced, a MediaInfo analysis will give us more detail, see this tutorial on how to setup MediaInfo and analyse a video clip for all the data required.
If the video is 1920 x 1080 or lower resolution, then Prores format is not going to improve the visual quality.
Do you know how the video is going to be shown at the concert, and using what equipment and screen size?
If the video is being projected onto a large screen, unfortunately the image quality is not going to be optimal.
In my limited experience with AV media and arts companies, they have tended to use iPads to control their equipment but have no idea of the software involved.
I've just done a test with a 1080 interlaced mts file converting to a ProRes 422 MOV file with Shutter Encoder. Playing the files with MPC-BE and my nose right up close to my PC screen I cannot see any visual difference between the mts and mov files.
@ericlnz Sorry I didn't mean to call you out on it.. I was curious about John EB's reply & then your comment..
I too have converted to ProRes many times without obvious loss in quality but not for the final upload to a site, I have a decent 32" UHD Dell monitor which would show a loss in quality.
My conversions have been as is/was often suggested on the VP forum for files to be edited in VP18-20 (before the VP21 (300)), I don't find that necessary anymore, but John EB did mention 'Prores is an All Intra encoded,..........video format intended as an intermediate delivery format for use in, for example, further editing'. . I couldn't respond to that comment 🤷♂️
@CONRADO-CORTEZ Suggest you find out the exact requirements for the ProRes file. I suspect it is required progressive in which case you will need to export from MS as 29.97 or 59.94 fps progressive.
I was assuming (bad move), that we were dealing with a higher resolution, eg 4K UHD progressive video format.
I wasn't really thinking of a resolution, if you're ref to my screengrab of ShutterEncoder, the 9:16 was just an example showing the ProRes conversion options, I just grabbed a file & dragged it in without considering AR.
-------------
Was the source video Interlaced?
🤷♂️ I know the basics but I don't know enough to have a deep conversation about that, that's why I couldn't reply,
In VP18-20 I didn't have a problem with basic editing of my UHD variable AVC phone videos, but when playing with Boris fx's the timeline playback could slow down or lets say be unpredictable sometimes resulting in crashes, VP found ProRes much easier to deal with, also Boris FX recommend ProRes for use with Mocha Pro/Silhouette & in general that is their favoured format overall.
This is a phone clip
VP18-20 was horrible when working with GoPro HEVC files, almost to a point of them being unusable without converting or using proxies so it was just as easy to convert them to ProRes than any other format (I only use UHD but I don't think it mattered what GoPro AR), the VP21 (300) build was a massive improvement, I now no longer notice the difference between AVC & HEVC / Phone or GoPro
This a GoPro, ignore the AR, like I say it didn't matter, I think the problem was HEVC but that's now fixed & my Phone is now set to HEVC to match the GoPro.
I now rarely convert to ProRes if ever, my main use of that format is for the alpha channel.
