Projects are Getting Corrupted

Seemingly at random, two different project got corrupted. The first time this happened, it said the project could not be opened. The second time, the program crashes whenever I try to open the file. What could be the source of the corruption, and can I get a corrupted file working again even though it doesn't have a back up save? Thank you for reading.

@PleaseLetMe1n. I would try the following. Temporarily rename the folder with your audio loops. If you then load your project Music Maker usually asks you if you want to relocate your loops. If this works then your problem is maybe caused by a defective audio loop.

If this doesn't work then I'm not sure what you can do if there are no backup files.

A good idea is to always use the "Save as..." option and to give your file a name with a version number, for example Save1, Save2, Save3 etc. This way you can go back if something goes wrong with your project.

Hi

If you have had other failures to open files and given the age of your computer (~ 8 - 10yrs old), if the hard drive is the original then you need to look at the possibility that the hard drive may be beginning to fail.

Do you have backups of all your important data/documents stored on the computer?

If not I would advise you to get it backed up to an external hard drive, and get the hard drive checked for failures.

I had the hard drive replaced with an SSD but those can fail too. I've been meaning to back up my files so I suppose now is the best time.

Hi

. . . . I had the hard drive replaced with an SSD but those can fail too. . . . .

Agreed, however with hard drives the failure is usually gradual over time, whereas with SSD's the failure is usually instant and total - you generally do not get warning symptoms.

As you have an SSD drive how much free space is there on it?
