project marker in magix movie edit pro 2016 has stopped moving

lmcsabonyi wrote on 6/11/2016, 11:44 PM

The project/ playback cursor (the one without the triangular head) is missing when playing back the project. I have never had this problem before.

I've been ill and havent used Magix for about a month. As soon as I opened Magix today the problem with the project marker was there.

I tried starting a new project but the marker still doesnt  work.

I've reset the program settings to factory settings.....no luck.

The computer did an Asus update when I turned it on. Nothing else has changed.

I am using Magix Movie Edit Pro 2016

I have an Asus computer updated to windows 10 from windows 8

 Intel core i7 - 5500U with 8GB memory

Nvidia geforce 920m

Would it be practical to use System Restore to return to your status a month or so ago?

Thanks for the response terrypin.

I'm a bit reluctant to do a system restore as there have been so many Windows updates in the last few days and I'm afraid it will muck up something else.

Has no one else had this problem? Should i reinstall the Magix program?

So you reset like this (MEP 2014, but I assume 2016 is essentially the same)?

And you've tried F9 to recover the default layout? And rebooted the PC?

The computer did an Asus update when I turned it on. Nothing else has changed.

I don't really understand exactly what you mean by that. It sounds serious to me, but perhaps I've misunderstood and it's a familiar routine to you? Have you subsequently tried resetting your BIOS to default settings? First noting any important changes you've made so that you can restore them later. And, of course, having set a System Restore.

Are the graphics elements of other applications still working correctly?

I've had the same issue with an AWOL vertical playback marker occasionally but it has always been restored by restarting MEP and if necessary opening a new project.

However, for certain other rare problems with missing UI elements (typically the main menu, accompanied by overlapping panes and other weird changes in appearance) I do resort to a rather obscure procedure. I can get into that if you want later, although the files involved will be in different locations for MEP 2016 to those in 2014.

From your latest reply:
...there have been so many Windows updates in the last few days

I don't have Win 10 yet, but have there been any reports that one of those updates has caused problems? In your place - and if the problem had persisted - I would methodically uninstall each of the updates (with an SR at each step) and if none of that solved the problem I would then re-install them.

Failing any of that, I'd suggest a re-installation of MEP 2016.

Thanks for all the info terrypin.

I have set the program settings to factory default but still have the problem. There are no other weird problems like overlapping panes etc. The playback is very choppy, though.

Sorry, but I don't know what resetting BIOS mean. Is it something to do with a System Restore?

Hi

There seem to be a rash of recent (in the last week) similar problems, possibly associated with Windows Updates and Graphics drivers incorrectly installing.

Please see my response here: http://www.magix.info/uk/magix-movie-edit-pro-2015-plus-issue.knowledge.1170713.html

I suggested that because of your report about an 'Asus update', which you haven't clarified. Google 'reset bios' to learn about resetting BIOS.

But I also suggested it might be a Windows update problem and Scenestealer's subsequent post makes that look more likely. Have you uninstalled the recent updates methodically as I suggested?

Hello, did anyone figured this out? I did not use my MEP 2016 for a couple of weeks. 2 days ago, I started it up, and the preview playback is all choppy. But what makes MEP not usable at all is the playhead/project marker does not move at all during the preview playback.

I am running MEP 2016 on a Lenovo Y70 with 16GB RAM with plenty of disk space.

I have tried the following:

1. Restarted MEP

2. Reboot Windows

3. Power down my computer.

4. Uninstall MEP 2016, manually remove all MAGIX registries

5. Reinstall MEP 2016 in a different folder.

6. Remove all external hard drive from the system.

Tried all of the above 3 times.

Finally when I install a trial version of MEP 2017, and that version work smoothly and flawlessly. Go back to my MEP 2016, problem persisted.

So I know that there is nothing wrong with my computer hardware (video card failing or hard drive performance issue or anything like that). There may have been a Windows 10 update. If that is the case, should MAGIX be accountable for that?

Hi

. . . . Uninstall MEP 2016, manually remove all MAGIX registries . . . .

Do you mean all the Magix entries in the Registry?

If you did not clean up the files that are left behind by the un-installer which are created on first run of the program then depending on the issue re-installing will achieve nothing.

If you did not use the tutorial for fixing issues with Windows 10 in the Tutorial section of the forum, then try re-installing following the tutorial - it will also check your Windows 10 is OK.
