Programme will not activate licence/registration

Just updated the software to version Video Pro X13 and on restart activation of the licence fails with "cannot connect to the internet" error.

Obviously, I do have an active internet connection and the programme has been granted access to my firewall and antivirus software.

Was perfectly okay until the update.

Hi George and welcome to the user to user forums.

The Magix servers have been acting up the past few days or Magix has been doing some work on them on and off.

Either way try again later. If it persists more than another 12 hours then there is probably something worse going on.

Thanks. I tried over a few days but with no success. Now created a support ticket but I suspect they are being overwhelmed just now given all the comments on the forums. I just wonder why I seem to be the only one having the problem.

My firewall is configured to allow Magix access to the internet and it worked fine previously.

Annoying given version 12 was good.

Have you ever run Video Pro X13 as an administrator? If not, try this.

  • Right click on the shortcut.
  • Now choose Run as Administrator

If you need to run the program as an administrator every time you start Video Pro X13, proceed as follows:

  • right-click on the shortcut
  • Click on properties
  • Shortcut tab
  • then click on: Advanced.
  • put a tick in the box next to: Run as administrator
  • Click on OK, apply and click on OK again

I have always ran it that way but makes no difference. This has now affected all my Magix software with the exception of MP3 Deluxe. It activates okay but the rest just fail. Not sure it is a great way to operate software that you have to be online and activate it like this.

Yes. I was notified of the updates and when completed the software would not activate. This also applied to Music Maker. Both are now useless.

I don't have Video Pro X13, but I had chosen not to have automatic updates as I prefer to choose when to install updates myself and I don't run application software in Administrator mode. I reinstalled and selected automatic updates but different issues arose during re-installation - connecting to server errors. I've asked for a refund. Thanks for trying to help.

The auto update function merely alerts you to an update but you can choose to install it or not. Using Internet Exploder to validate your credentials seems a bit of a "blast from the past" method. Maybe all that needs to be reviewed and updated. Strange that all my other usual programmes, like Adobe, Skylum etc, all validate with no problem.

Yes. And IE is STILL being required in March 2022 - even though it all support has now stopped and it will be discontinued on June 15th 2022!

But, because it IS still REQUIRED my copy of Movie Edit Pro Premium 2022 is now useless - they won't even allow it to start! And I cannot find ANY way to contact their "support. Just loads of out of date and irrelevant stuff online.

Not a great way to run a software company.

Click on the Support link in the header of any forum page and follow through each successive page, always making sure to click on the "Ask Support" link when it is offered, sometimes at the very end of a page.

Would it not be a better idea for the company to actually have a reachable support service instead of sending people round and round in circles on the website? And this forum is described as "community" which means users and not official company support! So NO-ONE should have to go scrolling around on here to get to technical support for fundamental issues! NO-ONE has used Internet Explorer for YEARS! So why is it still baked into Magix software?

For me, that link just leads to a page that - repeatedly - just says "we cannot find anything", so not very helpful, really...

But I did (eventually) get a "Search for other solutions" button which led to a "Find a Solution" button, which led to all the same loops that I have already been round several times. So not exactly what I would call a "streamlined solution"...

This is for Windows 10 only, and is following the normal Microsoft schedule when a product enters the last phases before retirement, which for Windows 10 is Oct 2025

While no one may use IE, the core engine is an integral part of Windows, and so much software, not just Magix, that depends on this feature, makes removal is a big issue.

The core engine is still in Windows 11, however launching IE, the shortcut is still there, opens Microsoft Edge.

Support have a guide here on how to raise a Support ticket - a quick search of the forum for 'Contact support' would have found the article top of the results list in the Support filter option.
