With the newer versions, MEP2020 and VPX11, Magix has moved the data to:

C:\Users\Public\Documents\MAGIX\Common\Videocontent

under the corresponding program, like mine, "Video Pro X." From what I understand, there will no longer be duplications of the content for each version.

If I understand correctly from what was said about the new VPX12, the extra content detects what you have and proposes a download of only what has changed or is new.

The thing is, if you move the ProgramData files elsewhere, how is MEP to know where to find them? There is no path for this in Program Settings. Maybe in an ini file somewhere?

You may want to check the Audio Temp folder as it fills up quickly.

Link Shell Extension. Greatest thing since sliced bread. It creates a link in the original location so that the program doesn't know the data is actually somewhere else. I use it for my Eudora databases. They are on my D drive when the program thinks they are in their proper place on the C drive.

Thanks Alwyn, I may brave up and try that. But I’ve now removed about 40 GB of other stuff, mainly iPhone & iPad backups that I hadn’t realised were duplicated on my PC as well as iCloud.

Are you still taking those great plane video clips - or is that another @AAProds ?

While the ProgramData folder can be moved - it is not without consequences Microsoft warn against doing this:

Changing the ProgramData setting to redirect folders to a drive other than the system volume will block your ability to upgrade to future versions of Windows.

I wasn't considering moving the entire ProgramData folder! Just the files for rarely used MEPP 2014, which I could replace in seconds if necessary.

How many MEPP versions do you have and what is their total size (versus my 28 GB for those three)?

Since rebuilding my PC and laptop replaced the both hard drives - 2TB on PC, 1TB on laptop - with a new ones clean Win 10 install, MEP 2015, 2016 and 2020, VPX and three other Magix programs:

C:\ProgramData\MAGIX - 17.4 GB

C:\Users\Public\Documents - 59.0 GB

The drives were replaced because they were 6+ years old and the PC drive was showing signs of potential issues later down the line, and Windows had been upgraded through every version for 7 through to Win 10 1903 and had accumulated a lot of legacy junk.

IMHO I would consider upgrading the SSD drive to a larger one and have a total clean install if you have followed the same upgrade path - the difference with Windows is visible.

On my laptop 256 SSD:

30.5 GB under: C:\ProgramData\MAGIX

20.2 GB under: C:\Users\Public\Documents\MAGIX\Common\Soundpools

44 GB under the combined: C:\Users\Public\Documents\MAGIX\Common

7.8 GB under: C:\Users\Admin\Documents\MAGIX - I did some cleaning up recently

I have several versions of MEP/VPX just to keep some of the third party plugins.

My laptop is straining at the seams, as is my Desktop (512 GB SSD) that has much more on it.

Aha, I just found 10 GB on my laptop that I can send to an external drive - backup from the technicians of previous Surface Pro that went to sleep and never woke up.

All of the 59 GB, there is nothing else in Public Documents.

My OS drive is <10% full at 178 GB of used space, of which the above is part.

My 'Documents folder' is moved and is an entire separate 2TB drive.
