File>Settings>Program... Device Options tab.

In the Hardware Acceleration area, try changing the dropdowns to different selections.

I'll second Gid's request: what settings was your Hardware Selections on when it wouldn't run, and what did you change to that fixed it?

We have had a few similar instances where MEP 2022 wouldn't run until the hardware settings were changed.

The Intel 9-9900K should also have an inboard HD 630 graphics chip.

Are you using one or two monitors and if two do you have one monitor plugged into each graphics port. IE, motherboard and nvidia graphic ports rather than both plugged into the nvidia outputs.

I ask all of these questions because your system should work regardless of the options selected to control the import / export or graphics processing unless you have 8GB of motherboard ram or less and are handing files of 4K of resolution or more.

What video format and resolution are you importing onto the timeline? A MediaInfo analysis of one of the clips would help, download and install MediaInfo and analyse one of the clips and post the results, see this tutorial if you are not familiar with MediaInfo, on how to setup MediaInfo and analyse a video clip.

Is the lightning symbol bottom right of the preview monitor on ie is blue - if not turn it on?

Given the computer specification MEP 2022 should run on both the GPU's present, ie the Intel UHD630 and the GTX1050Ti without issues up to and including 4K UHD (3840 x 2160), if you are importing 8K video then you get some pausing/jerking.

Are the drivers for both GPU's up to date - the latest Intel driver is v30.0.101.1191 and for the GTX 1050 Ti driver v511.65 (30.0.15.1165)

If the UHD 630 did not appear in the Device options then it is disabled in the BIOS.- turning this on should enable it to be used.

Unfortunately that tells us nothing about the codecs and other parameters of the video clips that are essential - mp4 is a container file format which supports many different video and audio codecs - it is this full MediaInfo information we need.

We desperately need a sticky to help people set their machines up for the new Hardware Settings or give solutions to this incessant crashing/freezing simply because Magix can't/won't program their software to fail gracefully.

I would wager a fair number of users wouldn't know a lot about dual monitors, activating iGPUs in the BIOS. what Direct X or video RAM they've got, or indeed driver status.

It's not their fault that MEP 2022 and VPX are so fussy and they need help, if for no other reason than to obviate the need to go through the same steps over and over when helping. The issue is almost never about a user's system, it is about MEP/VPX not being set up properly, and there is zero guidance about that anywhere.

It may do Al, stranger things have happened in the past. Also no mention of amount of motherboard ram.

No he doesn't. he shows his settings, not the options available which would show what choices could be made.

As for setting up MEP or VPX instructions. Please feel free to try. I think @johnebaker has worked out the permutations of how many different ways to set up the program there is for device options dependent on the component choice of the person inquiring. That will not include Windows setup variations, and driver version availability (GPU dependent). Then we get to video file variation which may have nothing to do with the program setup and may not be needed at all.

I think the resulting article will be very long to plow through and not much help without further instruction.

Ray, you did ask: "What options do you have showing?" not "available".

Re a guide:

I've fixed people's crashing/lockup issues recently by suggesting changes to the HW Accel settings.

That, and enabling the iGPU in the BIOS, and perhaps attaching another monitor, checking drivers and general reset to default will fix most problems.

I don't see that as particularly difficult. I'm not suggesting a ten-page spiel on how to reset the BIOS. The idea is you get people to go through that quick checklist before coming on here and us going through the same old stuff, day in and day out. Still, I suppose a sticky called "What to do if MEP/VPX crashes/freezes/misbehaves" wouldn't look good... I might fire up the AA Productions website again.

And Magix needs to pull it's finger out and get their programs running properly, this thread being an example. If it turns out to be the framerate, it shouldn't crash on the GPU when it doesn't crash on the CPU. After all, 5 updates to a program? Really? And still there is at least one show-stopping bug (for me, at least). MEP 2021 has had no updates as far as I am aware.

Hi Al.

While I don't disagree with your argument I would be afraid that if they got to a setting that works such as just switching everything to CPU then they may be missing out on performance or disappointed with the results. Or once getting it working don't bother to return to the forum to see if there could be a better solution.

Even in the past with previous operating systems and earlier programs it was more difficult to get them to run effectively than MEP or VPX is to set up at present.
