Program Crashes

I apologize if I inadvertantly cross posted. I was in the wrong forum.

I installed the Free version of Magix and it works fine on my laptop, but when I connect to an external hard drive,the program crashes at the outset. Here is what I get (plus a long Call Stack)

Error code=0xc0000005 (ACCESS_VIOLATION).

Which version of Windows is on your laptop?
