Program/Application Crashing

James-Lahoud wrote on 3/27/2023, 9:41 PM

I've sent requests before about my application. I first had Studio suite 3 years ago and it worked, but then I think it stopped working after a windows update. I bought the latest version and the result was the same thing, it would crash as soon as it opens. The previous request tech support asked for the diagnostics and said I need to have the latest Intel drivers up to date. That did not resolve the issue however. Where to go from this point?

@James-Lahoud

Hi James and welcome to the user to user forums for Magix products.

Was your last version of the program Vegas Movie Studio 17?

If so the program is no longer the same application it was back then and may not be able to run as well on the same hardware. We need a complete system specification of your machine to be able to tell you if changing some of your program settings will help or not.

Ray.

Hi.

In theory your system should be coping but what have you got running in the background?

Total Physical Memory    31.8 GB
Available Physical Memory    15.8 GB
Total Virtual Memory    46.3 GB
Available Virtual Memory    5.33 GB

Windows takes up less than 5GBs. You may need to close a lot of your background applications or tabs in your web browser. You should try running the program with no other applications running to make sure your system is not simply running out of resources.

Also the latest Intel HD 630 driver is 31.0.101.2115 and the latest Windows build is 19045.2728.

Also please allow at least 20% of your C: drive to be free space for the program to be able to use swap files while running.

There is no mention of a separate graphics card in the system. Is that correct?

Ray.

Hi.

I forgot to add that some antivirus programs will block the program from working as it will see the program asking for authentication from the servers as suspicious. To prevent that please add the programs folders to the exceptions to be scanned section of any such software. This is a known issue.

Well, this is really my dream machine and has been quite a charm with no hiccups except from Windows updates which I try to prevent as much as possible. I never had antivirus on my machines as I monitor everything myself. Although, RAV somehow appeared and I removed it recently. I've customized this AiO with the top and best specs in the event that I go heavy on gaming or have loads of editing on here. Alas, the editing experience happened only once and the game I admired ran poor frame rates on here. However, I know its the meager graphics card.

The other method I tested was opening a new user account but same result the program crashed there as well with a clean startup. I've had issues with other programs where they won't work with my main user account but opens in another.

In the programs settings what is showing in the Device options drop-down menus?

You should find the graphics card options there.

In the German forum we had two such cases in the last few days.

Deleting the videodeluxe.ini helped both times.  It is called Videodeluxe.ini in the German version.  Maybe @CubeAce or another user can post the path there in their version.  In Windows Explorer you have to display the hidden system files.

Hi Marc.

Location of that file should be in C: / Program Data / Magix / Videodeluxe (version)_premium. I think only the Videodeluxe.ini file is safe to delete as the program will (should) recreate it on being asked to open. I would not suggest deleting the installation.ini file.

What does your computer Disk Management show please?

Do you have copies of Crystal Disk Info and Crystal disk to test and show the health and current state of your drives?

I am going to copy in @johnebaker to this topic as he has more experience with more systems than myself. Hopefully it will grab his attention.

Ray.

I want to say that in the performance tab of the task manager thats what it shows, but in the other displays it is just C: drive and I'm nearing 50 percent usage.

I want to upload my snippets of the disk management and CDinfo but it says error posting.

Hi.

As far as the drives are concerned I can't see much wrong with any of them although the temperature of your Toshiba NVMe drive seems a little high even if that temperature was taken under load. At idle my C: drive (also NVMe) hovers around 36℃ and under sustained load hardly ever creeps above 39℃. does it have a heat spreader attached?

I have a Toshiba M.2 drive and that hovers around 43℃ at idle and 50℃ under sustained full load but that does not have a heat spreader attached. Hasn't as yet caused any problems either.

If you are still having problems and as the C: drive was supplied as an OEM drive with your system it may be a good idea to check the Toshiba website to see if there has been any firmware updates for it or new drivers as that drive has been around since 2017.

Ray.

Hi,

Here is the path to mine, which should be for MS2023 Suite:

C:\Users\user_name\AppData\Roaming\MAGIX\Videodeluxe29_premium

@CubeAce

Hi Ray,

You must have this but you just can't find it. Look under AppData under users in the C drive. If you don't even see that, then you have hidden folders and you'll have to unhide them.

Hi Ray

. . . .  AppData/Roaming . . . .

. . . . I do not have that folder as I do not sync data across devices. . . . .

You do have this folder it is the Windows shortcut name for C:\Users\user_name\AppData\Roaming\

You can access it quickly by typing %appdata% in the Windows File Explorer address bar

Hi John EB,

Thanks for the % wildcard reminder. I keep forgetting that for both Magix programs and Xara. Duly squirreled away in OneNote. Now I just need a note to find it.

Now I just need a note to find it.

Glad I'm not the only one! 😂

All my forum comments are based on or refer to my System 1.

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. Since then we've advanced to MP4 and to bigger and bigger resolutions. I was really suffering, not so much in editing (with proxies) but in encoding, which just took ages. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. I'm keeping my old system as a capture station for analogue video tapes and DV.
