From the way you have the project set up it looks as if it is behaving as it should.

I'm not sure what you are trying to do from the example. Looks good to me depending on what you are trying to do.

Maybe you should watch some of the tutorials on how to start editing in the tutorials section of the site or describe what it is you are trying to do.

I was trying to get an exactly cut where i shoot the guy in the head, but as I cut it right before the shot and moved the cut piece in the timeline, it ended up having cut to right AFTER the shot. I tried to correct it again ( in the video above) but it still cut in a weird way. I'll see if I can get a better example once I'm off of work

Hi Nicolas.

You need to expand the timeline size. The controls are in the bottom right hand corner of the app. This will give you better control over your editing. Down to the frame if needed.

Edit: Seems it didn't get uploaded with sound 😩 Basically the cut the footage right after I shot the second guy in the head. however, when I put that footage next to the clip that comes after, it shows it so that I only shot the first guy and then cuts. and then after 1:15 it even shows me fighting the third guy.

Hi Nicolas.

I am a bit confused.

Is track three a different sound track or is it the sound track to track one?

If it is the sound track to track one then you have ungrouped the video from the sound track and sound is staying where it is and not moving with the video as it is moved around.

Also in the last video you have muted the sound on track three.

If track one has it's own sound right click it and select 'Create wave form' So I can see which tracks also have sound. If track three audio does not have to move with track one then that is OK.

Hi, No that is my Voice over and it is seperate to the audio from the footage. Originally it was on track two but when i seperated one of the clips audio it put that one on track 2 and moved my all my voice over audio to track 3.

I muted the voice over so that it doesnt distract from the video, where im trying to talk about my problem. Ill upload the video unlisted on youtube and post a link here so it has audio.

Hi Nicolas.

The reason John is now asking for for the data read from the MediaInfo program is possibly because he suspects as I now do after seeing your recent upload, that the source files are variable frame rate files. Where files do not have a constant frame rate, the program has to guess where the cut was made and can be out by as much as the frame rate varies. So if the file has a variable frame rate of up to + or- seven frames, the cut could very well be put in the wrong place even though at first it looks OK. The Magix programs really need to be fed with constant frame rate video. This is not to be confused with variable bit rates as that is OK to have.

So if you could download the free MediaInfo app and copy the Text View results and post here it may help to solve the problem.

Check the Sample rate is set to 44kHz in your movies project settings. It could be set to 48kHz which would be wrong for the files being used.

Try using Handbrake to mix down the audio to stereo and import the result into MEP and edit to see if this fixes the issue.

You should be able to set the screen capture software to record in 1 audio stream (stereo), with a sample rate of 48kHz, the game audio should be in the right channel and commentary in the left channel (default if using a mono microphone).

This seems to have fixed it! Also thanks for the adivce about VBR. I set the audio tracks to 3, because that's how I learned it on Youtbe xD

Hey guys, it seems the problem isn't fully fixed yet 😬😆. I found the same issue with recordings I just now made that has only 1 audio track. The good news is that mixing it down in Handbrake with the preset

Hi.

It could be an intrinsic problem within the way OBS Studio produces its files. It's quite a complex program when it comes to settings. I had a look at the OBS forums and it is awash with people complaining about syncing issues with even straight uploads to YouTube where I guess YouTube's own re-rendering has similar problems to MEP.

Looking at the program settings more closely it would appear you can only put sync frames into the video stream at one second intervals and the default seem to be every two seconds. It would also be of benefit to have the encoder set to producing two b frames in the GOP structure. I don't think that is the case in the default settings.

The default bit rate is also a bit on the low side.

While I'm an OBS user myself I don't use it to record footage to be later edited in MEP so haven't seen these problems.

It may be worth considering using a paid for screen recorder like the one John EB uses but I can't remember which one that is nor can I say it would resolve the problems.

I further suggest bringing this topic up on the OBS Studio users site to see if anyone there can clarify if there could be a problem or if there is a way to rectify it at the OBS side of things.

I use Screencast-o-Matic, I cannot say if it would resolve the problem as i do not game, though it is a much lighter program than OBS.

I am beginning to suspect that OBS may be dropping video frames, due to it not keeping up with the graphics card while gaming. This could result in out of sync audio.

If you have a Nvidia graphics card have you tried ShadowPlay if it is supported?

I have now tried to duplicate what others are experiencing with editing OBS Studio footage John and I can definitely report it is completely mad and close to impossible to use. I have not seen behaviour like it before.

However I think this could be a deliberate function of the files produced by OBS. As a screen recorder that is powerful and free to download it would not take a genius to record a pay for view movie or some other restricted content and then edit it down. The behaviour of such files in MEP and VPX (and subsequently perhaps other editors as well?) Would deter all but the most determined or capable of people.

What happened when I tried?

I took a ten minute clip of adverts and then tried to rearrange them and cut some out. Snipping at scene change points went without a hitch at first. As did some deletions, or so I thought. As I deleted or changed some clip positions, other clips started showing deleted sections or completely different parts of the timeline than they did. It was completely insane or genius. Completely unusable.

The only way I can think around this would be to convert the files through export rendering them as whole clips first and then re-importing them for editing. This I have not tried yet. The files as they are though are completely unusable. At least on my setup.
