Hi

This sounds like a codec issue.

What is the format of the source files?

Avi files are not a video format they are container files which may contain video encoded with any available codec.

We need to know what the internal file format is - you can use GSpot or MediaInfo to analyse the video files.  GSpot will also tell you if you have the correct codecs installed on your computer.
