Problem with VST and dll files

elias-breidenbach wrote on 12/27/2017, 9:32 PM

Hello, everyone!!

I have just started working with Magix Music Maker Premium 2017 and am trying to use some new instruments I downloaded for free. I download the dll file, but I can't use it in Music Maker at all When I download the file, it goes straight into my "downloads" folder. I've read that the file should be extracted from the zip file in order to be used, but I don't know where to put it when extracting. PLEASE HELP!!!!

i think this functionality has been removed, I can see vst paths in v2013 but I just bought 2017 and nowhere to import or set free vst paths.... google only shows how to on previous versions....

Larry98 wrote on 12/28/2017, 6:00 PM

@jokule81 Do you not mean version 25? You have the free version which of course have limits. to raise the limits enter a serial number from the newest plus or premium version and unlock the functions, presets, instruments and soundpools you want in the in-app-store.
Another way is the buy it for 9,99€ or using a older serial number (MX-2017)

It is a paid for version....I can see the vst plugin path now, I think my AV software was causing issues

electrochrisso wrote on 12/29/2017, 4:54 AM

You can create your own vst path if you dont know if you have one already, I made mine c:\vst to put my free ones in, I put the dll's and associated files in there, since MM is a 32 bit program I am not sure the 64 bit ones will work though.

emmrecs wrote on 12/29/2017, 5:28 AM

@electrochrisso

since MM is a 32 bit program I am not sure the 64 bit ones will work though

32 bit MMM will only work with 32 bit VSTs.

However, if you have 64 bit plugins you wish to use, have a look at jbridge. It's a paid-for app but you can download a demo to check it works for you. Essentially it allows 32 bit VSTs to work in a 64 bit host and 64 bit VSTs to work in a 32 bit host. Just make sure you carefully follow the instructions on how to create the bridged versions of your plugins!

Let's say I make my own VST path. How will I be able to access those VST files through the Magix software?

johnebaker wrote on 12/29/2017, 8:45 AM

Hi

. . . . Let's say I make my own VST path. How will I be able to access those VST files through the Magix software? . . . .

In the programs settings you add the path to your own VST folder as shown below

Once this is done they should be visible in your Instruments tab - if you want an image then of the instrument, as shown below, you also need to add/create a jpg image of it and place in the same folder as the VST dll.

For some VST's you need a specific folder structure for them to work correctly eg the example below shows where the DSK Analog Matrix DLL and jpg image are in the root of my VST folder, as shown in the first image below, and the presets etc are in a folder which must be the same name as shown in the second image.

@elias-breidenbach

Assuming you have a version of MMM that allows you to use VSTs, go to File>Settings>Program Settings (shortcut P), the Folders tab and click the button highlighted in my screenshot below:

Then select the folder where your VSTs are stored.

When I go to "Settings/Folders", it does not give me the option to ad VST paths, and there is no area for "My MP3s"

@elias-breidenbach

That's why I wrote Assuming you have a version of MMM that allows you to use VSTs. From your screenshot it would appear you are actually running the Free version of MMM, not the Premium version that you mention in your first post to this thread. Are you sure you have the Premium version? Have you registered/activated it fully? If you look under Help>About Magix Music Maker, what does that screen show? (A screenshot of that screen would be very useful!)

The box definitely says "Premium". Here's that screenshot

emmrecs wrote on 12/29/2017, 10:01 AM

"The box" may say Premium, but your screenshot says otherwise! What box by the way?

The first line of the main text should read Music Maker Premium if that is the installed and registered version. So, are you sure you registered and fully activated your installation of MMM?

Idk. there were two places to type in the activation code and I typed it into the first one. When I tried to type the code in the second space, it said that I had already unlocked everything for the version I obtained.

All versions are the same. You only get coupons on the store to get functions, presets, instruments and soundpool.

Elias go in the store, use your coupons and unlock the functions you need for free.

yes right.. At the bottom you see them. You can click on the number to see which one can be unlocked for free.

You only have to pay when you not longer have coupons left or didn't bought the plus or premium edition.

You can even using a older serial number to unlock the contents.

Actually it shows that way after a VST folder has been chosen. Mine does as well. It recognized all the VST3 files but NOT the .dll s. Ther must be a way to import those. Oh and yes I used all my coupons a long time ago but have need of some specific VSTs,
