Problem with my magix editing software

Former user wrote on 4/11/2022, 3:38 PM

Sooo I have the magix 2016 application installed on my HP laptop and idk what’s going on…..but I can not edit a single video…there’s lots of stopping and skipping so I can’t see what parts need to be taking out of my video…I can not edit at all because the video isn’t playing correctly while I try to edit….I’ve uninstalled the app and even cleared storage/wizard, neither of those worked. Is it time for a newer magix software like maybe 2018, 2021 or 2022, because it wasn’t always like this (so I know it’s not my laptop)….it’s literally something going on within the editing software application itself. I’m out of options

Hello, welcome

It would help if you provided the details of your laptop as in Cpu and what gen it is, including onboard Gpu, ram, hard drive etc.

Have you updated the audio and video drivers and updated windows etc?

Try to reset your MAGIX program to its default settings:

To do this, go to "File" > "Settings..." > "Reset program settings to defaults".

Then, restart the program.

The more information you provide, the better users in the forum can help you out.

Can you tell us more about the video you are trying to edit, sample rate etc?

Hi,

Further to what Stephen said, which software do you actually have? You have posted under Audio, Other Products, instead of under Video and a product. There is no program called "magix 2016 application" and your subject line, "magix editing software" doesn't help either. Magix makes many programs.

Hi

Before we can help you as @PATIENT-X and @browj2 have commented we need more information - in addition to that already requested we need:

Computer specification and program version, see this topic for what is required and please quote processor and graphics card make/model in full, and also what monitor/screen resolution(s) your are working with.

I would suggest you put this information in your profile signature so we do not have to keep asking for it.

Are the graphics card drivers up to date?

A screen shot of the Program settings, Display options or Device options tab  would help.

What is the video file format and resolution you are trying to edit - download and install MediaInfo and analyse one of the clips and post the results, see this tutorial on how to setup MediaInfo and analyse a video clip for all the data required.

The amount of free space on the hard drive(s) you have.

I’m sorry guys for the late response. Thanks for the updates, I am resetting the app and I will check back in to let you guys know how it’s going.

BTW, I didn’t see any other options to select. I don’t know all of this information, I wanted to speak with someone who could help me but there’s no email nor contact number. I have the Magix movie edit pro 2016. The size of the clip is only 3 minutes, it’s from a Sony zv 1 camera. I have a HP Laptop 15, installed RAM 8.00 GB, system type 64-bit operating system, x64 based processor

And resetting didn’t help either. It’s still playing horribly during my playback

@Former user

Hi and welcome to the user to user forums.

Your Sony camera is much newer than your software. I think, looking at the camera specs online that you have two problems that may create more problems along the line.

1: I think the Sony camera can only record video using the Sony AVCHD file format.

2: Movie Edit Pro does not support that file format.

Magix VPX which is more expensive can handle that file format but the newer program may not be compatible with your hardware.

If you wish to continue using Movie Edit Pro 16 you are going to have to convert your files to the MP4 file format first using a free program like Handbrake so that the editor can read the file format correctly.

If on the other hand the Sony zv 1 camera can record directly to MP4, that is the file format your should record to directly from the camera.

@Former user

Hi,

We still need to see your hardware in more detail. In Windows, open Settings, System, About, and copy the information beside Processor and paste it your reply. Also, on the same screen under Windows specifications, note and tell us the Edition and Version.

Note that purchasing another software to handle the file type may not help you if your computer cannot handle the other software. Do not purchase any software unless you are sure that it will run properly on your existing hardware. Even purchasing a new computer will not necessarily help you unless the new computer has the correct specifications. Vendors are notorious for telling customers that your video software will run fine because the computer is for high-end gaming. They do not have the same requirements.

@browj2 @Former user

I second John CB's advice.

I have been through the same problems more than once when buying a new camera.

The new camera has used codecs that I did not have before and my old software could not read the new formats. So I updated the software which in turn needed much more powerful computing power and either crashed or froze in use until I had hardware capable of supporting the program.

Unfortunately this seems to be the price of wanting better quality although why camera manufacturers or phone manufacturers for that matter need to do this when older codecs could in many cases also be used is beyond me.

I understand that sometimes there is a genuine need for better dynamic range or resolution but to not offer an alternative for those that may not be able to use the camera to its full potential straight away I do not understand.

Without the answers to those questions already posed it is highly unlikely that we can help you!

I did read ALL your comments before my previous reply to you but you did not supply the level of detail that we really need. Yes, I realise this information may not be easily accessible to you but there is no point in you responding with a post that suggests you may be offended by what you are being asked to do! We are all fellow-users, we cannot see your computer and the problems which you are experiencing.

So, please re-read all the previous replies to your original post and at least try to answer as many of the questions posed as you can! As has been suggested to you, the combination of the camera you have and the format of file which it produces, the age of your Movie Edit Pro and your laptop's hardware may well be the reason for the problems you experience. Simply choosing to update your software or to move to a different software is most definitely NOT guaranteed to be any sort of solution for you.
