Problem with 'Activate MPEG4 Basic' - Error 44 Movie Edit Pro 17 Plus

Have used this software for many years. All of a sudden today, Magix asked me to Activate MPEG4 Basic. When I try to activate it, it tells me I have to register first, when I try to register it, it tells me I'm already registered!! It gives me the error code 44. Tried to do it online via the support website too but again I go round in circle.

Hi

What has changed on the computer?

I have a similar issue with all versions of MEP from MEP 17 through to MEP 2014.

If you have Windows 10 and the program was working OK and have now updated to Windows 10 anniversary edition then the update looks like it has introduced some new security settings which prevent the program running properly.

Try running the program by right clicking the shortcut for the program and selecting Run as administrator - you will be asked to allow the program to make changes.

Otherwise see this post and give more details.

Many thanks once again for your prompt reply John. Indeed Windows 10 had performed an automatic update that day. In the end I restored the computer to the day before the update and Magix is working again for now. All the best.
