Prior Trial Version not allowing final activation

Erik-Rupp wrote on 12/15/2020, 1:13 AM

I had a prior trial version of Sound Forge 10 that expired a month ago. I got a new copy of the full version, loaded it, and attempted to activate it, but the trial version popup comes up and won't accept the activation code/serial number. It keeps looping. I can't open the full version because something is still on the computer (even after uninstalling it previously) that thinks it's still the trial version that has expired. How can I get past this?

@Erik-Rupp

Welcome to the Magix user to user forums.

My suggestion is to find and download Revo Uninstaller, either the Free or paid-for (Pro) version, install it and allow it to remove everything connected with your installation of SF. (BTW, version 10 is now rather "old"; are you aware of that?)

Then reboot your computer and reinstall the full version.

Pro 10 is old, but once activated, works good and many folks prefer the legacy non-modal plug-in chainer and record UI.
Some folks though (including me) need to perform a (elevated privilege) registry tweak after some Win 10 updates. Setting it to 'run as administrator' works, if you do not mind the extra steps to launch.

'Revo' has been my uninstaller for quite a few years now.

Yeah,. I tried version 14, but I like 10 better. I'll have to check out Revo Uninstaller. Do you have any idea why the trial version pay popup won't go away, even after I did the normal uninstall? I uninstalled the trial version, then a week later installed the purchased version of SF 10, but the trial popup keeps blocking any kind of final registration/activation and I can't open Sound Forge V10. Any idea why that's happening?

The trial version pay popup won't go away in SF Pro 10? .. Is the current version you have from an old SCS installer? If you have a valid serial code (and the email address the product was registered to), you can download the final build from the Magix Download Center. Alternately you can also download your products and veiw your registered serial numbers in the "Magix Service Cemter > My Products"
In any case, uninstall the current installation with Revo Uninstall before reinstalling.

The weird thing is I did register it on the Magix website, and even did the download from there AFTER uninstalling every Sound Forge item I could find on the computer. Even the trail version of 14. And it still does it. I'll have to try the Revo Uninstall to see if that works. It's just odd because it shouldn't be an issue at all. Something about that trial version is tenaciously holding on and is hard to get rid of.

OK, well, the Revo Uninstaller unstalled what I downloaded, and I deleted some additional extensions, but I still can't get past that Trial Version Expired popup that won't accept the Activation/Serial Number. I downloaded the program straight from the Magix site. I really need to get this running. What can I do?

What do you mean by "Revo Uninstaller unstalled what I downloaded"

You also should try cleaning the PC with CC cleaner and use the registry cleaner tool fter the initial clean process. CCleaner also has pro and freeware versions.

When you used Revo Unintall, was the "Advanced" scanning mode enabled after the initial uninstall, where all the entries check-marked and "Deleted" after the scan.

Cold boot the PC between the uninstall and disable anti-virus apps prior to re-install.

I downloaded Revo Uninstaller and uninstalled Sound Forge 10, since the licensing/trial popup wouldn't go away. When I reinstalled it again the popup was still there. I did get some help though, there was a license subfolder that wasn't uninstalled that I had to delete manually. Then I had to create a new folder for the Temp files and now it works!

Thank-you for the update.
Where was the license sub-folder? I do note see it the program files or App data folders.. Could be just with the demo versions,

Revo normally removes all leftover folders and such. That said, I am glad you have it up and running.
