Post Editing Time Limit Not Necessary

I had a minor gripe about this previously, but I'm hardening my position. I think the time limit for editing posts should be removed. I've just noticed a typo I made in a post of an hour ago but now cannot correct it.

I visit this board frequently and have not noticed people maliciously or nefariously changing their posts for the worse; it seems people who come here are just not in the business of being like that.

I can see the logic on sites such as Facebook and X where people need to be held accountable for their actions or words, but I can't see that that scenario applies here. I think I read recently that Musky wants to now allow edits of tweets.

Could we please have the time limit for post-edits removed.

In a world without spammers, this would not be necessary, however the measures put in place to reduce spamming are very necessary.

John, could you describe this scenario? The way I see it, if a spammer appears, if his post remains, who cares whether they amend it or not? It's not pushed to the top of the topic list so doesn't affect the rest of us.

How is it helping the mods control the board?

There is a lot more to this then just spammers, add in trolls and malicious/libellous posting.

Behind the scenes stopping the spammers was like an extended Whac-A-Mole game.

We still get spam trying to circumvent the system, which we have to deal with behind the scenes.

How does this relate to "editing" a post? Nobody can edit one of my posts unless they hijack my account, in which case editing a post that I have made will be the least of everybody's worries.

Eric, it gets to the point where it's too hard and people aren't going to do that, not to mention the additional workload on the mods. The forum will just have to put up with having misleading information on it for eternity for Magix and other users to read. Example:

As @johnebaker writes above, there is a great deal going on behind the scenes that only the moderators and forum admins "see"! I understand your concern about being unable to edit posts you have made - I believe the Magix-set time limit is 30 minutes after the initial posting. However, as @ericlnz writes, moderators are able, and (speaking entirely for myself) perfectly happy to be PM'd to request any edits!

It is not about accounts being hijacked, it is about stopping spammers/bots trying to get around forum security measures.
