Hi and welcome to the Magix forums.

I don't own MM but the symptoms you describe sound very much to be caused by a buffer overflow in your audio output. "Pops" are a sign that the flow of data it is trying to handle is just too much; the fact of the complete muting and non-responding program would suggest that your audio device is not able to cope with the amount of data it is being asked to pass.

So, to help we need a lot more information about your computer specification (processor, RAM, hard drives etc., etc.), operating system and particularly about your sound card. Depending on the latter it MAY be possible to adjust the buffer/latency settings to try to avoid your problem.

Hello, this popping issue just started. My pc is new. HP envy i7 processor , 1tb harddrive, 16 gig ram, not sure on the soundcard. I have had MMM for about 1 month, and this popping just started yesterday. It does not start happening until playback a few times, and then the red bar, and the MMM icon in lower tool bar blinks green, and then the app no longer responds.

Hi.

Thanks for the additional information. Unfortunately, the one critical missing detail is the sound card! And what OS?

If you're not sure how to find this information do the following: (I'm assuming you're running Windows 10 since you say this a new PC)

  1. In the Cortana search box type "System Inf".
  2. Open the System Information desktop App.
  3. On the main screen check OS Name and Version.
  4. In left hand side menu, select Components>Sound Device. You should see something like the screenshot I've attached below.
  5. Post here all the information.

Hi;

This is what Magix help suggested I do,

"In order to get around this issue please reset program settings back to default via File > settings > reset program settings to default.

Additionally please patch your software up to date directly through the following link:
https://support2.magix.com/customer/de/patch_download/258591/manual

Lastly please install the following ASIO drivers through the following link and make sure to select these drivers in your audio setup (File > Settings > program > Audio MIDI):
http://www.asio4all.com/".

I did and this is how it works now, and what I sent back to Magix.

I did as you suggested, reset setting back to default, installed the latest ASIO driver, and ran the patch (which I already had).  That does the trick for a little while, but then the red bar will appear again, but this time I cannot record or playback, no popping sound, that’s a plus. Have to clop the app and re-open. If I do the same set default, everything is working good for a while. Also, while all seems to be working good, sometimes the piano does not sound. If I click someplace else, and then return to the piano, it is working again for a while. Also, I have noticed if you click to fast in the program (doing some editing), the app locks up, and is no longer responding. I sent several report errors yesterday. My guess is that some of this might be related with Windows 10, 64 bit. I see it at my work. We are a software development company for the automotive market. Windows 10 has been a pain, but that is the present and future. Windows 10  next generation is already being advertised. What else do I need to set or install, so MMM will not lock up and crash?

One more thing. I did a few guitar recordings yesterday, and a couple of them, the record speed was double or triple. Sounded like Alvin and the Chipmunks rock band. All I did was stop the recording, delete, and start record again, and all was find. Any suggestions?

Also, below is my sound device information.

Thanks

Hello again.

Pleasing to hear that a) Support suggested you install asio4all, and b) you have managed to at least temporarily and partially resolve the problem.

I still think the problem is buffer overflow; asio4all has the capability to allow you to set and control this. You need first to open the asio4all "Settings" screen. It is likely to look like this, though it may open directly to the second screenshot below.

Notice the "spanner" I have highlighted. Click on it. The next window should open, looking like this.

Now, having checked that your sound device, the connexant card is correctly listed on the left, look at the two areas I have highlighted. The more critical one is the bottom left; try moving the slider to the right. This will increase the buffer size.

Test out the operation of the program after making any change. If the buffer size becomes very large there is a possibility that you will experience a playback delay, especially if you are doing any overdubbing; in that case, try increasing the other highlighted area "Latency Compensation".

HTH
