Yes I've been using MEP2016 successfully installed & activated in a faster desktop W10 Pro. Do you guys know if there was an 'Old Age Film' plug in that was offered for 2016? I suppose I'll need to go to 'Help', then 'Install extra content'?

I'm offline right now avoiding 'Forced Microsoft Updates' (please don't want to make this an issue - I had my reasons), but I'm prepared to connect again in order to buy more plug in's ...

Hi Mike.

As far as I can tell these types of effects are just looped video files with a transparency layer. Place such files in the programs' appropriate folder. There may be a second file associated with it. I don't know.

You should have some film effects in Effects, Presets, General and Movie looks categories - the 16mm film is probably the closest one to your description.

You just jogged my memory. There is and has always been (at least from the 2018 version) an 'Old Movie' overlay in the effects 'General options' section, next to 'Shot match'.

MEP 2016 does offer some presets including 16mm, (exactly where John described them), thank you. However they are 'presets' and although very handy, they don't offer variability/parameter of grain, lines, etc ...

How bout Ray's suggestion 'Old Movie Dust'? Getting it into MEP: Drag the purchased app/plugin into MEP?

Are there 'other' purchase options online through Magix: Going to 'Help' then 'Install extra content'?

Hi Mike.

If you want to vary the effect it gets more complex.

You may need to mix and match between things like 'Old movie dust' although the pack I suggested on the other site is better IMHO and the Hitfilm Movies Essentials Pack if it is still available.

Thinking about it further.

Try adding grain which you should have I think and then use this link to look for free background downloadable loops. Then adjust colour and saturation to taste.

I've been playing around with just what I found in my program.

One is only really hindered by one's imagination and ability to experiment.

Hi Mike.

The only difference between 'Old movie Dust' and the ones you find on the YouTube channel are the patterns and frequency length of the cycle time of the file. Heck it is possible to deconstruct a lot within the supplied MEP intros and outros such as the countdown intro film clock and use what you find there but it is against terms and conditions of using the program to reverse engineer it's contents. 🤷‍♂️

You should also have 'grain', and 'Feature film', as well as 'Old Image Sepia', and 'Old Movie' in the General options of the Video Effects section along with some appropriate mask shapes in the Templates section. All of that I also had in the 2018 basic program version.

Along with what you can find to download for scratches etc or download and use the free Boris Effects Particle Illusion and create some of your own although that's a lot harder to do.

I was also curious if there was a 'Plug In' I could have missed from the Magix Download Center, (directly off the app).

Hi Mike.

There was the HitFilm Ignite Classic Cine Pack Magix Edition I got as a third party plugin but Hitfilm has recently been taken over by Israeli company Artist to compete with Adobe and these packs no longer exist as HitFilm Express packs as the Editor is now a fully subscription based editor and called HitFilm Free or if you want the additional content, Creator, Pro, or Enterprise, depending on the level of additional effects and amount of licences required.

As such, it in now more like the Vegas set of offerings but subscription only. Really, it is only a set of presets you could cobble together yourself with other filters from New Blue(New Blue Filters 5 Recreate from the Magix shop) plus what is already in MEP.

I checked for any Magix 'extra content' and naturally there's nothing. However I did opt for a 'Magix Update' designed for 2016, hope this update is useful ...

No subscriptions for me thank you ... however I found a 'Grain Filter' on U Tube:

Hi Mike.

Was there nothing the the programs' Effects General options section? I'm sure there was in the 2018 version. That as far as I know was never extra content.

Look at my 10:08 reply image for location. Also Templates / Movie Looks / Film Looks basic which @johnebaker referred to has been there forever.

Even if you screen recorded the YouTube videos in full screen mode and used those files with the Chroma Key, they would work. Most filters are either still images for colour correction or video files for moving particles.

If you look around the net you can find everything from spores, scratches, jumped sprocket horizontal wandering frame lines and burn holes, to wandering film edge sprocket holes.

Different YouTube searches comes up with different effects. If you ever don't want to go back that far 😂. For the type of effect you want at the moment even a screen recording would do straight from YouTube.

Personally I would not do this as the results can be poor due to not having full control over the Green screen effect as MEP 2016 Chromakey adjustments lack the Antispill feature.

There are many free downloads available eg this search returns many free sources in ready to use formats - some require QuickTime installed. Videezy (top result for me) has a great deal of dust & scratches effects.

I've used 'age filters' previously in my Macs with great success. They were reliable and simple. At this point, I'm concerned with simplicity and compatibility with MEP 2016. Unless someone here has actually used one (extracted online with reliability), I'll have to run through a few of them and see what's what? Sure don't want things to crash ...😲

Hi Mike.

I haven't extracted effects for aging video but have used other backgrounds both from screen recording and downloading from YouTube before I started to create my own effects.

If a file has no download location and recording the screen is an option, I have never used MEP to screen record as the recordings have always been too soft when I have tried so I have stuck with OBS Studio.

Looking at the system specs for MEP 2016 it seems to be able to use the same video wrappers the current program uses and I have not personally had any problems using MEPs' chroma Key editor whether a file has used a green, black, or white background. I don't personally foresee any compatibility problems arising unless you have a graphics issue.

Here's an example of the 2 free overlays i downloaded from Videezy - the 1st overlay is the Film Grain overlay and the 2nd the Light_Very_Rough_10 overlay repeated multiple times and snipped to remove the big 'defect' on the right from some of the repeats of the overlay clip.

I used the Bleached effect from MEP, Chromakey Color to select an appropriate colour area for both overlays as they are not a pure white and tweaked Size & Position to give a better result.

Emboldened by @johnebaker 's effort I downloaded a couple of YouTube clips from the google drive link in one of the channels links and just applied de-saturation / brightness / contrast, to the main video, jiggled it a bit with Size / Position, Added the YouTube video with chroma key black settings, and added a mask for a frame from MEP.
