Playback on TV

Hi.

I'm Rob. I am not a computer wiz-kid, but I am an experienced video film maker.
I have been using Magix Edit Pro since version 2005. I am now using version 17 Plus but I have a problem when burning a DVD.
The program appears to burn the DVD ok but when played on the TV via my set-top DVD player, I have to press the play button twice. The first press creates a black screen and the second press starts the film.
I have down-loaded the latest up-dates for MEP 17 plus but this has not solved the problem.
My computer is Win 7 OS, 64 bit Intel (R) Core(TM) i5-2300cpu @ 2.8GHz 300GHz.
It has 8 GB RAM
My wife uses the same program on a different computer and does not suffer the same problem.
Please can any-one help?

Check if you use HD menu or SD menu, also animated menu. In the past i have the same problem to start the play movie on TV .

It might be worth trying the burn with a different program.

I've never had reliable burning using MEP over the years (MEP11 to MEP MX). I don't think its burning software supports a wide enough range of CD/DVD drives.

So, my solution is to leave the disk out when I start the MEP burn routine. When MEP has finished the encoding stages (which it always does successfully unless I've made some sort of mistake) it then asks me to insert a disc. I don't do that, but instead hit Cancel and then Close.

I then go to the folder of DVD files which MEP will have written to the location I specified in Program Settings > Folder > Disc images and play the DVD from there to satisfy myself it's OK. Then finally I burn the folder to disc with the excellent ImgBurn (free).

If or when I get my next PC, then I'll try MEP's burner again, as it's obviously more convenient to do the whole thing in MEP. But until then, no thanks!

Which DVD menu are you having the problems with?

If you do not already do so - to save making dud DVD's use DVD-RWs for trial burning - once you have what you want ie a good DVD with the video as you want it use a DVD copying program to write it to DVD-R as your final disc.

Using rewriteable DVD's you burn as normal in MEP. If it then plays OK and no further changes are needed to the movie then copy the rewriteable to a DVD-R.

If the DVD-RW does not play properly, or you need to make further changes to the movie, then you can erase the disc and use it again.

No more making coffee cup coasters - saves money and wasting discs.

I too am experiencing the same problem with EditPro17. I can't get my discs to play on any of my home dvd players, including a blu-ray player. I had no problem with the previous version of EditPro. I haven't found a suitable solution yet.

Try using a different brand of DVD - see my answer below about using rewriteable (DVD-RW) discs.

You are confusing multisession discs, which MEP will not write, with the reason I use rewriteables DVD-RW (BD-Re for Bluray) - they can be re-used after erasing and save wasting DVD's and BD's .
