Playback Marker/Red Line not moving/working

Myrkuri wrote on 2/6/2017, 4:45 PM

So I have Magix Movie Edit Pro Premium, just got it a few weeks ago. It's been great so far and I've really enjoyed it, but it recently...stopped working? Like the playback marker no longer moves, and it screws everything up to the point where I can no longer edit, that's how bad it is. I did the whole 'reset to default' and that didn't work, so I'm kinda lost :/. Any help will be appreciated!

NOTE: It was perfect until yesterday, when it just completely stopped working. I updated it too, so it's not because I don't have the most recent update. Please help, I spent like 100 dollars on this so yeah...

Hi

Try resetting the program to its defaults - File, Settings, Reset program . . .

Note - this will reset any customisation you done.

Hey! I tried that and it didn't work. What do I do now?

I checked a few posts before and saw that you usually stopped replying after someone asked what else to do. Please reply back :(

Hi

The reset should have fixed the issue - other then that.

Is MEP patched up to date? The latest version is 16.0.3.63 - if it is not then try updating to the latest patch.

Otherwise, AFAIK, the only option is to re-install the software.

If you do decide to re-install follow steps 1, 2, 11 and 12 of this procedure.

So I tried that, followed the exact steps, but still nothing :/ I'm really freaking out right now because this was working perfectly yesterday but nothing you've told me to do has fixed it. Is there a trigger for this usually? Like, have people complained about this before and you figured out what specifically caused it, if ever?

I need all the help I can get, I spent a lot of money on this so for it to not work after all this is really freaking me out... :(

Hi

. . . . Is there a trigger for this usually? Like, have people complained about this before and you figured out what specifically caused it, if ever? . . . .

There is not a single specific trigger for this and yes it has been reported several times for Movie Edit Pro and other Magix programs and not just with the latest version.

Check that you have not muted the Autoscroll in the program settings - although the reset and re-install should have put this to default Fast as shown below

It has been suggested the following can trigger this behaviour:

  1. Allowing the computer to Hibernate/Sleep for long periods, eg when finished working on it for the day and not doing a full shutdown, could be a trigger. Hibernating/sleeping a computer for long period is not a good idea as overtime issues will arise.

  2. A graphics driver update may have stopped the cursor moving - particularly if it failed to install completely or the manufacturers version was replaced by a Windows version in an update.

Did you do a total shutdown of the computer and a cold boot or just tell Windows to restart after re-installing?

If you are running Windows 10 run steps 3 to 10 in the procedure I linked to, in order to make sure the Windows 10 installation is OK.

If the cursor is still not moving then I would suggest you raise a support ticket with Magix - they may ask you run a diagnostic tool.

One other thing you might want to check, since I've had the same experience on my computer (will not play video, timeline cursor fails to move):

Although the reset to defaults should have done this, go to File>Settings>Program (shortcut Y), Playback tab>Audio playback. Check the settings there, especially that the correct Output device is shown. You might also want to check that the correct sampling frequency, normally 48kHz, is selected.

Exactly what has happened on your computer happened to mine only last week. After much digging around, head scratching and hair pulling I eventually found that (in my case) VPX was showing nothing in the audio Output device box. Reassigning my default sound card, actually an external unit connected by firewire, allowed VPX to once more "work as expected".

Yeah. I also did the autoscroll thing, so I guess I might have to go and file a support ticket? Will that help?

@Jeff: I tried, thanks for the advice but it didn't work :(

Did you try in a new project to see if it works? If it does, then your project may be corrupt and you will have to open a backup file that hopefully will works.

Okay, I've literally just pretty much reset my entire computer. I wiped everything off it and started off fresh. It still isn't working.

What else am I supposed to do? Nothing is working :(

Hi

. . . . just pretty much reset my entire computer. I wiped everything off it and started off fresh. . . .

A very drastic solution, however pleased to hear the problem is sorted.

Happy editing

Just one question. While it's not a big deal, when I did the reset my works were deleted. I can fix them up again no problem, but when I saved them, I thought they saved directly to the account. Is there a way to retrieve them or am I out of luck?

I think you have answered your own question - unless you have backups on another device eg external hard drive.

If you do not have a backup device ie external USB hard drive - I would highly recommend getting one they can save you a lot of anquish and time if your computer hard drive fails or files get deleted, accidentally or by design, and you then find you need them.

Suddenly, halfway through making my video, the playback, fast forward "buttons" etc bar at the bottom of the preview panel is grey and I can't use it. I can only edit the video by using the keyboard. What went wrong and how do I fix it please?

emmrecs wrote on 8/29/2024, 8:54 AM

@Terri-Julians

Welcome to the Magix users forum.

Unfortunately, in your first post here you have resurrected a thread which is very nearly seven years old with a question which is similar but not the same as the one originally asked.

Please do not do this!

Because of the above facts I have now closed this thread.

Instead, please start a new thread with your question, including details of your computer (this post will show you the level of detail that really does help other users to help you) and the exact name and version of whichever Magix software you are using.

Thank you.
