Playback choppy/lag - Movie edit pro 2015

metcout wrote on 12/19/2014, 10:33 AM

Hi,

I have some issue with my import video in movie edit pro 2015.. The playback is choppy and it make editing near impossible... My video are gameplay recorded with Mirillis ation! (1080P, Format AVI, With high bitrate) I tried a lot of settings and i always got a choppy playback..

Here's my computer spec:

CPU: Intel core i7 5820k oc @ 4.2 ghz

VGA: Nvidia GTX 980

RAM: 16 Gig DDR 4

I'm pretty sure i can handle high quality video.. i dont want to convert video before importing in mep...

Is there a solution for that ? in other software its ok (Corel video studio) but i purchase movie edit pro 2015 on steam to upgrade to a better editing software, but for now its not a great move ...

I tried the post by Terry with he's suggest but i always get the problem.. its a pain in the *** to work with this

Thanks

Hi,

Are you using the Proxy feature with your imported files?

On importing, do you get asked if you want to adjust settings?

Maybe if you post details of what MediaInfo or GSpot report about the files, someone here may be able to advise.

It would also be useful to upload a small example to a hosting site (e.g. Dropbox) so that others can try it.

I will do so too, although my PC is nowhere near the performance of yours and I'm still using MEP 2014 under XP.

Have you tried an alternative capture program, such as FRAPS?

I see you didn't follow up the suggestions I made three weeks ago.

Feedback is always appreciated, and it helps others who may have a similar question.

Hi,

I'm sorry i did not really have the time to make some test, but yesterday i found something.

Its appears the video file (.AVI) create by mirilis action!, once import in movie edit pro 2015, do NOT create proxy file, and yes, proxy is activate... If i import any other type of file (.mp4 or .avi not create by action!) proxy file are create.

Now i found something else to bypass that, i use the preview rendering feature and it work well...

so, now my question is, Is there's a way to force/manually create proxy file ? or the preview rendering is OK ?

I uploaded a sample on dropbox if you want to try it:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/nej6lwqyns847si/Nether-Gate.avi?dl=1

And the sound file:

Let me know whats your experience with this high bit rate file !

Thanks !

"It would also be useful to upload a small example to a hosting site (e.g. Dropbox)"

Was a 550 MB file really the smallest sample you could provide?!

(BTW, why did you also upload a separate audio file, as the AVI contains video and audio?)

Anyway, I wasn't surprised that my MEP 2014 was unable to successfully import this file.  Whatever codecs your games capture program Mirillis action! uses, I obviously don't have them installed. Even if I did, I suspect that  a bit rate of 238 Mbps would be too much of a challenge for my PC spec.

Usually, when MEP fails to load a file, I can play it in one or more of my video players, but ALL of those failed too. (Oddly, I did at one stage get some sections of brilliant video, with stuttery audio, but after several attempts I've been unable to repeat that!  I think it was VLC or MPC-HC, but it hardly matters.)

WMP, MPC, MPC-HC, PowerDVD and IrfanView also all failed, but without reporting accessible erors.

Did you try my FRAPS suggestion?

Haha, its a 19 sec video, this is the smallest under 20 sec i have.. I uploaded an audio track cause MEP do not detect the audio in this avi file(recorded with multichannel audio), but this is not the issue, im fine with that.

Yes mirilis action! use a home codec they made, this is why you cant play the file.. if you install the mirillis action! demo you should be able to get it play, probably choppy but it will play.

For FRAPS, i used it in the past, it did the job but options are limited and FRAPS use a lot of ressources and FPS drop. Action! record more smoothly, without fps drop and has many options...

You did not talk of the "preview rendering" feature (the symbol is a little eye) if its good to use or not ? it create some files just like proxy file, the file are in the working folder of magix when proxy are in the same place as imported file.

Yes, IMO preview rendering is a good altermative to Proxy files. I thought it probably used the same conversion methods, but in your case one feature appears to work and the other doesn't,  so maybe they use different techniques.

(BTW, I couldn't find the preview rendering files after a brief test just now.)

I haven't used it for a long time, as proxy files are a bit more convenient (although arguably not as flexible, unless you import each file individually and toggle proxy on/off each time). If it works for you with these files then it seems your immediate problem is solved. Just leaves the mystery over why proxy files are not created.

I haven't re-tested recently, but note the obscure bug I reported here:

I found these files in the "PerfBounce" folder.. c:\users\xxxxx\documents\magix\mep2015\PerfBounce

If it works for you with these files then it seems your immediate problem is solved. Just leaves the mystery over why proxy files are not created.

Yes i'm fine with that ! at least now i can use the mep correctly and have fun with !

Thanks for your helps/tips, i appreciate that.

Pleased to hear you're sorted.

I found the perfbounce files (all ending with mxv.H0 and apparently in pairs, smaller and larger). But I'm baffled as to why they contain no video content:

I upgared from V 17 to 2015 on the hope it would suppord HD better. I found it worse in many cases. V17 has the ablility to run the live video at half and quarter quality option to speed playback when editing. 2015 seems  to have removed this feature (unless I have miissed it ) and the speed up button on the video screen seems to make no difference at all to playback choppyness

I have just reinstalled V17 and are planning to go back to that !
