Hi, can anyone please help me, I have just got mmm mx and it's great, but when I play my guitar via an irig hd into my laptop, I can only hear my clean signal on play back while recording, I can only add effects after I have stopped recording, is it possible to hear the effects as you play, I really hope so, can anyone help please?

Hi,

Which version, year and whether or not Premium, are you using?

In MMM2015 Premium, press M to get the mixer, arm the track by clicking on REC so that AUDIO REC shows up, use FX to set something on the main fx screens, and or click in the little box below FX REC on the track that you are recording to and select an effect. It should now be live.

I have music maker mx, I have done all that, I can hear my guitars clean signal, and it does record, but it doesn't add any fx until after once I play the recording back, I am pretty sure I should be able to hear the fx while I record on playback. Any other ideas :)

Hi

MMM is a non destructive editor and AFAIK effects are added at the time of playback or exporting, not during live recording.

If you could apply them during recording it would be an irreversible step.  If you changed your mind or found the setting was wrong part way through recording you would have to start all over again.

So are you saying I can't even just jam along to a track with the fx on. That's a bit rubbish, but the amp plugin has a tuner at the top right, it doesn't pick up my clean signal, yet I can hear it through the headphones and the sound meters on the record section do react. There must be a way of doing this, even garageband on the iPhone has this function. If I can get this to work I will be so happy :(

Hi,

I'll get back to this in a couple of days. I'm remodeling my office and the computer is out of action until I get my new desk installed.  I have MMM2013 and I will try it. It may be that the older or basic versions don't allow fx on the tracks during recording, but MMM2015 Premium certainly does, and non-destructively as far as I can tell - I will check. My test was with voice with a couple of effects on the track as I indicated and the effects came through clearly in the headphones.

If it doesn't work in MX then your option would be to upgrade to Premium.

How is your guitar connected to your computer?

More in a couple of days.

Via an i-Rig HD into the usb, I am new to using DAW's on my laptop, I only ever used garageband on the iPhone before this.

Hi,

I tried with MMM2013 and I had a lot of problems. When I added an effect to the track and tried to record, it killed the program. I tried several times. I could record with no effects, but as soon as I added an effect to the mixer and tried to record - dead.

My MMM2014 was removed with the installation of 2015 - it asked during installation if I wanted to uninstall 2014 and I selected yes. Error! I should have kept it.

With MMM2015 Premium, I did not have this problem of killing the program when I pressed on record after adding effects to the mixer. I could hear my effects on the track live during recording, both audio and midi (separately). I could un-highlight the effect in the mixer afterwards and listen to the original without the effect. So, in 2015 Premium, the effects done this way are non-destructive and can be modified subsequent to the recording (or removed).

I did have a lot of problems with the monitoring. I am using my M-Audio M-Track and monitoring through this. It allows direct or USB or a mix of both. Sometimes the sound would come back through the M-Track, other times nothing. I would have to play with the parameters; it would work once, then not work until I played with the paramters again. Something is wrong here. I will try to pin it down.

The M-Track is more powerful than your iRig as I can monitor as indicated above and I can plug in 2 instruments or mics or one of each and they record to separate channels on the same track, i.e. left and right.

Did you try monitoring through the headphone input on the iRig? If so, did it work ok?

As an aside, I thought that one could record on 2 tracks simultaneously in 2015 Premium. I was not able to do it so perhaps I misunderstood the marketing blurb. Best to stick with Samplitude Music Studio for multi-track simultaneous recording.
