At the top of the timeline is the time grid, click wherever you want there. You can scrub by dragging the triangle left and right. Note that clicking on a track does nothing. You click on objects.
If you want to import something onto a particular track automatically, click in a blank part of the track header and it will turn blue, thus selecting the track. Nothing to do with the playback marker.
To see other ways to move the playback marker to a particular marker or from one object to the next, go to Edit, Move View.
I presume that a manual comes with MMS. I suggest that you read the Quick Start chapter to get a good feel as to how the program works. Also, watch my tutorials.
Hi Ina, and welcome to the User to user forums for the non Vegas based programs.
Most of us here on this forum will not yet have had any experience with this program but we have been led to believe that the new layout and behaviour of the new version of Movie Studio 18 is identical in most respects to the programs we use on this forum. Namely Movie Edit Pro and Video Pro X.
Vegas creative in its infinite wisdom has decided to move Movie Studio 18 from the realms of its product range and will now be represented and amalgamated with the aforementioned Movie Edit Pro and Video Pro X program line up. Possibly ,eventually, to be merged into one product which at present looks like it will be Movie Edit Pro as the interfaces at least are now very similar.
As those replying have probably had zero experience of actually using Movie Studio 18 we may not be able to answer all the questions relating to it accurately so please bear with us.
If Movie Studio 18 is now basically the same as Movie Edit Pro, the cursor behaviour can be changed to do as you wish although most of us do not use that function finding it inconvenient to our normal workflow practice.
That may be down to that function not being active as standard on the install of our programs.
To do as you wish, please do the following if possible in Movie Studio 18.
If you are not used to this forum you can enlarge either thumbnail by clicking on it and click to one side of the image to come back to this page layout.
I hope this helps.
If it doesn't because your program settings look different to Movie edit Pro's, then please get back with some screen shots of your program settings pages.
Your screenshots are almost exactly the same as Movie Studio Platinum 18.
Unfortunately, even though that checkbox is checked, it did not do what I wanted it to do. When I click on an object, it moves the cursor to the STARTING EDGE of the object, rather than where I clicked. That's pretty useless :)
I have also noticed that the playback cursor (orange marker) does not "snap" into place when I get it near the edge of an object. Is that also a setting in Movie Edit Pro that you can set and unset? (I want it to snap)
You have to click on the top grid line where the triangle is to move the playback marker to the location where you have clicked.
Note that for fine-tuning where the location of the playback marker, there is a jog wheel below the Preview Monitor that moves the playback marker in 1 frame increments.
When you drag the playback marker to close to an object edge, release the mouse and it will snap into position unless you have turned off the horseshoe shaped magnet on the toolbar (Object grid).
