Photostory Deluxe 2019 encoding query

I’ve just corrected an error I made when I somehow managed to overlap two music tracks on my slideshow. I’m now ready to burn the project again to a Bluray disc. Do I need to Encode All again for this one little change? Starting from scratch, it always takes 4.5 hours to burn a BD so I’m hoping there’s a quicker setting to use! Any help would be much appreciated!

My personal preference is to fully re-encode. That way, you can be pretty certain that there will be no undesirable "hangovers" from the previous, erroneous export.

I'm not even sure that you can, safely, simply re-encode the affected part of the show.

Thanks Jeff. Since submitting my question I fixed the error in my project and then opted to Encode & Use All. This seemed to work ok but it still took 4 hours to process. I've been using ULead and then Photostory for about 15 years now but have never understood the difference between Encode All & Encode, and Use & Use All. I don't know whether the processing takes so long because of my laptop's capabilities or the program's. My current project is 15.5GB & 1hr 26mins long so maybe the slowness is just due to the size.

Thanks for the update. I remember reading somewhere that one of my fellow-moderators explained the difference between those various encode options, but I can't find it at the moment and can't remember what he wrote!!

@johnebaker I'm sure I remember you writing something about this?

Hi Jeff,

I tried to find an explanation in the User Manual/Help, but to no avail. In the meantime I'll just keep Encoding All and Using All even though it's a very slow process. If I burn a second/copy disc, it's much quicker.

I'm just a golfing grandma and not very computer savvy, and I know Photostory does heaps more than I take advantage of but I'm always happy with my finished holiday DVDs.

Just an update Jeff.

Since my last message I've tweaked my project a little so that it's now 20.56GB and lasts 1h25m34s. Last week I had an SSD installed on my laptop thinking that this may speed up the burning process, along with other computer-wide advantages, however it took over 8 hours to encode all/use all and burn my BD!!! The picture on my TV is crystal clear and the quality is excellent but that's always been the case so I've no idea why it's taking so much longer to burn. I'll be doing it overnight in future!!!

Thanks for this latest update.

The installation of an SSD is certainly not going to do your laptop any harm but it is other components, like your CPU and/or GPU if you have a separate one, and the amount of RAM you have, that are really going to effect changes to the total time taken to process your final BD.
