I have recently purchased Photo Story Deluxe 2020 version. I have burned the program on a DVD. I have burned it as both DVD and Blue Ray. The disc will not play on my DVD player. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
The problem of non-playing discs could be caused by various factors, so you may need to do some checking of your set-up of PS Deluxe.
Depending where in the world you are you may have the disc standard set wrongly in PS Deluxe output. Most (?all) of Europe requires PAL/SECAM, but America and many other countries require NTSC.
The actual DVD disc may be "faulty" or incompatible with your DVD player. Which brand of disc do you use?
That's 2 things for you to consider and check.
I notice you say you also burned a Blu-ray disc; does that play properly?
In addition to @emmrecs comment - in the Photostory Burn Disc feature, which menu did you select and did you change any of the options, in the dialog shown below, that opened after selecting the disc type to burn?
If not please give us more detail on how you burned the discs.
What make/model player are the discs not working in?
Thank you for your reply. Here is more info on my problem. I am in the USA. My DVD player plays burned DVD's from programs other than PS Deluxe. The PS Deluxe burned DVD's play on my relatively inexpensive portable DVD player but not on my DVD player (Samsung) attached to my TV. Same is true for the Blue Ray version I burned. I have another DVD player which I use at public meetings that I hooked up to my TV to give it a try. Same negative result. I have burned versions with higher quality settings with the same end result. I have spent an enormous amount of time getting familiar with PS Deluxe by building a trial project.. If I can make PS Deluxe work, I think I will like the program. I have burned five different PS Deluxe DVDs in failed attempts to make it work. Obviously if I cannot solve this problem, it will be a deal breaker and I will have to write off the many, many hours I have invested in my PS Deluxe trial project as well as the purchase price of PS Deluxe. Hope you can help.
Apology for not including the version of PS Deluxe that I am using. It is the 2020 version. The DVD player is SAMSUNG Bu-ray Disc Player/DVD Player BD-J5100. Thank you for your help.
From personal experience I have found that DVD-R tend to be "more reliable" for single-layer (4.7 GB) discs, whereas DVD+R seem "better" for dual-layer discs (8.4 GB). I've never used discs from Maxell.
Also can you confirm (under Help>About Magix photostory) that your version is 19.0.2.46?
I would suggest you try a different brand as I have had many issues with Maxell discs in the past. eg Verbatim or Ritek.
Personally I use Ritek DVD full face printable discs for DVD and Blu-Ray - it is possible to write Blu-ray to a DVD disc if the movie is shorter than 30 mins.
For Blu-Ray where the movies is more than 30 mins I use Verbatim BD-R disks.
With both makes I have had no issues - I do the initial burns to rewritable disks Verbatim DVD+RW and BD-RE for DVD and Blu-Ray respectively so if there are issues or the movie needs changing I do not waste discs, and then copy the rewritable to permanent disc when happy with the movie.
I will add a little more info in the chance it might be helpful in your diagnosis. The test project that I built to tryout PS Deluxe consists of 156 pictures, several tracks of music, various text. The program is 12:59 long. It is 655 MB on a disk of 4.7 GB
. . . . The PS Deluxe burned DVD's play on my relatively inexpensive portable DVD player but not on my DVD player (Samsung) . . . .
That means that the DVD discs are burned correctly, and would suggest that there is a disc incompatibility issue with the Samsung and the 'other player'.
Do the discs play OK on your PC when using a playerthat supports playing a DVD disc eg VLC?
I have exported the program to my PC and it plays fine.
The discs also play on the PC with VLC.
The discs also play on our inexpensive portable DVD player.
I cannot get the discs to play on a TV. I have hooked up two different Samsung DVD players and a Magnavox DVD player to our TV and the discs will not play. I have also hooked up the Samsung DVD player to a different TV and it won't play the discs either.
One additional comment: Our DVD player and TV play other DVDs that have been burned including those from two other slideshow software of different companies. I think PS Deluxe has the potential to be better than my previous slideshow programs if I can ever get the burned discs to play.
In your second screen shot, it shows PAL. You're in the USA. PAL disks often don't work in North American DVD/BR players, especially older ones. That is probably the cause of your problems. Open the popdown and select Standard DVD NTSC (widescreen if that is what your set up is). Also, check your Program settings to make sure that you have NTSC checked under the Options tab.
How can I thank you. I don't know why I did not see that. I had input NTSC on PS settings but the burn program has a seperate setting.
I cannot thank you all enough for your diligence and help through so many posts. If there is any place where I can give a high rating of satisfaction, let me know. I would be glad to do so.
